Name: Jyoti Satish Thorwe

Occupation: Housewife

Age: 30 yrs

Height: 162 cm

City: Aberdeen, United Kingdom

Highest weight recorded: 90 kg

Weight lost: 30 kgs

Duration it took me to lose weight: 6 months

2/7

The turning point

I gained weight post pregnancy in 2018 and I could not give time to myself and remained overweight till 2021. When we moved to the United Kingdom in 2021, I realized people here are fit and healthy and do loads of outdoor activities such as hiking, cycling in the mountains, surfing, etc. Due to my weight, I could not do any of these activities which was a turning point for me to get fit and lose weight.

3/7

Diet followed

My breakfast: 1 glass of protein shake with a few almonds and cashew nuts. Approx. 400 kCal

My lunch: 2 chapatis or 1 bajra bhakri with two cups of daal or 1 cup of vegetable sabji, lots of green salad and buttermilk. Approx 800 kcal lunch.

My dinner: Either salad + soya chaap or protein shake with salad. Approximate 500 kcal.

Pre-workout meal: Drink 1 glass of hot water with lemon and ginger

Post- workout meal: 1 glass of protein shake 120 kcal

I indulge in (What you eat on your cheat days): 1 cheat day per week (Dosa, vegetable lasagna, aaloo poori, biryani, etc.)

Low-calorie recipes I swear by: Soya chaap fry, moong dal chilla, daal, protein shake

4/7

Workout regime

Every morning and evening, I indulged in 7 km walking with a speed of 6 km/hr (increased to 7.2 km/hr in a few months). It accounted for 700 kcal each. After walking, I performed general exercises for 30 minutes both morning and evening. My workout routine consisted of exercises such as sit ups, crunches, planks, push ups, etc.. I started with 5 reps each and increased it to 30 reps each in a few months time.

5/7

Fitness secrets I unveiled

I realised that consistency is key. I was extremely regular with my walking. I walked more than 10 km a day, which helped me reduce weight faster, whereas the exercises I did helped me get back in shape.

How do I stay motivated?: I do loads of outdoor activities with my friends which include hiking, cycling, swimming, etc.

How do you ensure you don’t lose focus?: You will hardly see any change in the first month, but don't lose hope. Continue following the schedule and it will definitely result in a fit and beautiful body.

6/7

What’s the most difficult part of being overweight?

For me, it was not being able to do what your friends did and it limited me to indoor activities only.

What was the lowest point for you?: In the first month, there was hardly any change and I thought about giving up, but my family kept me motivated and supported my efforts.

What shape do you see yourself 10 years down the line?: I hope to be fit and in shape, which is why I am never going to stop exercising regularly.

7/7

What are the lifestyle changes you made?

Eating habits and daily exercise are the two major changes I made to my lifestyle.

Lessons learnt from weight loss: It is not very difficult to lose weight. You build the best memories during the weight loss journey. You can be more energetic and do lots of activities and have the energy to play with your toddler.
