It became difficult for him to carry out basic day to day activities like climbing stairs. It was then that he made up his mind to get his fitness back on track. The turning point

After I gained a lot of weight, not only did I face difficulty in fitting into my old clothes, but I also developed several health issues. I could not even climb stairs and was easily out of breath because of the same. This is when I decided to do something about my weight and started my fitness journey.

Diet followed

My breakfast: I had nothing for breakfast

My lunch: Any vegetable, 2 chapati, salad, brown rice and dal.

My dinner: Any vegetable, salad, brown rice

I indulge in (What you eat on your cheat days): I do not believe in the concept of cheat days.

Low-calorie recipes I swear by: Brown rice, sprouts

Workout regime

If you want to lose 1kg weight, you need to burn 7700 calories (Calorie deficit = Calories gained per day – calories lost per day).

My goal was to burn more calories to lose more weight. My workout and diet plan was according to that. During the initial days, I walked an hour in the morning and an hour in the evening. But for extraordinary results you have to work extraordinarily too. So I had to push my limits to create new limits.

As I was obese I used to get tired fast, which is why I decided to breakdown my workout routine and divided it into three parts.

In the morning, I indulged in Surya Namaskar (21 sets), cycling (1 hr) and exercise (½ hr). My afternoon routine consisted of running for half an hour. Finally, in the evening, I again went cycling and exercised for half an hour.

Fitness secrets I unveiled

It’s all about your mindset. You have to work on yourself everyday to develop a strong character.

How do I stay motivated?: When things do not go your way, you feel like giving up. But I reminded myself why I was going through so much. After all, it all boiled down to why I started my fitness journey in the first place.

How do you ensure you don’t lose focus?: I always set a target and that helps me stay focused.

6/7

What’s the most difficult part of being overweight?

Given that my weight increased day by day, I began encountering several health challenges. Basic activities like climbing stairs became a task and I suffered from shortness of breath.

What was the lowest point for you?: Once my weight reached 87 kilos, my weight loss process slowed down despite my consistency. That was when I got really frustrated.

What shape do you see yourself 10 years down the line?: My goal is to be fit and never gain weight in my life.

7/7

What are the lifestyle changes you made?

Our daily routine and lifestyle determines our health and fitness levels. So it was clear that I had to change my day to day habits.

I stopped binge eating.

I stopped eating junk and oily foods.

I stopped eating late at night as well.

Lessons learnt from weight loss: I always try to do better than what I could do previously. Many times, results are not achieved despite the hard work. You fail. But if you do not stop after failure, you learn from that, aiming for even higher targets - failure is the stepping stone to future success.

A champion has to have the skill and the will. But the will must be stronger than the skill – Muhammad Ali.
