Crowning ceremony of King Charles III

King Charles' coronation ceremony is all set to take place on May 6 at the Westminster Abbey in London.

The ceremony will be attended by 2,000 guests -- world leaders, members of the royal family and celebrities. People of Indian origin attending the coronation include Vice President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar; actor Sonam Kapoor; Lord Navnit Dholakia, deputy leader, Liberal Democrats, in the House of Lords; Jay Patel, a beneficiary of one of the Prince’s Trust Canada’s youth employment programmes; and Radharaman Das, a Hindu priest from the famous ISKCON Bhaktivedanta Manor Temple, in Watford, among others.

Huge crowds are gathering in central London ahead of the Coronation of King Charles III and Camilla, the Queen Consort.

When did Charles III become the king?

Charles became the King the moment Elizabeth II, his mother and the former Queen of the United Kingdom, passed away. At the coronation ceremony, King Charles III’s wife, Camilla, will be stepping into her role as England’s new Queen Consort.

Charles first married Lady Diana Spencer, who became the Princess of Wales, on 29 July 1981. The couple had two sons, William and Harry. They later separated and their marriage was dissolved in 1996. On 31 August 1997, the princess was killed in a car crash in Paris.

Charles later married Camilla Parker Bowles on 9 April 2005. Here are the next 4 family members in the line of succession.

William, Prince of Wales

After King Charles III, the next person to be the first in line to the throne is Prince William, his eldest son with Diana, Princess of Wales. William met his future wife, Kate Middleton (Catherine) at St Andrews University. The couple were married in 2011.

The Prince trained with the Army, Royal Navy and RAF before spending three years as an RAF search-and-rescue pilot with RAF Valley on Anglesey, north Wales.

Prince George of Wales

Prince George, eldest son of William and Catherine, is second in line to the throne, after his father. He was born on 22 July 2013 at St Mary's Hospital in London. At the ceremony, George will have a key role as “Page of Honour” to the King, becoming the youngest future king to play an official role at a coronation at age 9.

Princess Charlotte of Wales

Charlotte Elizabeth Diana is the second child of William and Catherine, born on 2 May 2015. She is known as “Her Royal Highness Princess Charlotte of Wales” and is third in line to the throne, after her father and older brother.
