Learn how positive words shape a child’s world

Have you ever wondered why you need to teach positive words to your kids? Is it just because of the etiquettes and manners class or is it beyond that? The answer to these questions is, words matter, either you say to yourself or to others. Words aren’t just sounds; they’re seeds. When planted in young minds, they grow into attitudes, beliefs, and habits. And just like a seed needs sunlight, water, and care to grow, children blossom when they’re surrounded by uplifting language. And that is the reason we send kids to school for learning purposes. Whenever they face any challenge, instead of saying “I can’t do it”, they should say “Let’s do it” or “I can do it.” From “I can” to “thank you,” simple positive phrases can empower kids to face challenges with confidence, treat others with kindness, and feel proud of their learning journey. Here are some positive words listed below which help kids shine in class.

Instead of denying it, say ‘I can’

When children regularly hear and say ‘I can do it’, it helps them to believe in their own ability to learn new things, even if they make mistakes along the way. They aren’t fearful of failures and don't get easily influenced by success. Their target is to achieve more and be a better version of themselves. If they say phrases like “I can figure this out if I try”, or “I can ask for help and keep going.” Such phrases help to get you options and grow positively.

Express gratitude with a ‘Thank You’

For your better self-growth and esteem build up; expression of gratitude is very important. Gratitude is often underestimated in the classroom. A simple ‘thank you’ has the power to foster mutual respect among classmates and encourage helpful behavior without bribery. If you teach your child to express gratitude, your child feels valued, the class sees kindness rewarded, and suddenly the room feels a little warmer.

As parent say ‘I believe you’, it heals

The phrase “I believe in you”, “You can do it”, or “I trust you” holds so much value that it is priceless. It acts as a healer for someone who’s demotivated or is lacking self-confidence. If you as a parent say these phrases to your kid, he/ she can cover milestones with those words coming out of their loved one’s mouth. It builds trust and signals your faith in their abilities, especially when they doubt themselves.

‘I am proud of you’, if you say so; your kid feels motivated

You might have heard about classical conditioning and reinforcement. The way you condition your kid, their actions happen accordingly. When you as a parent say to your kid, “I am proud of you”, it is more than any gift. It is the confidence which you have put in your kid and they will further try hard to stand as per your expectations. Phrases like this give emotional reinforcement and let children feel their progress.

Teach your kid to apologize and say ‘Sorry’

Whenever your kid makes a mistake, instead of letting them cry, ask them to apologize and admit to the mistake which they have made. Before an apology you need to teach them how to owe your mistake and try to work in that direction so that your kid doesn’t repeat the same mistake. If your kid gets in a fight with his/ her classmate what you need to ask your kid is to mutually apologize with each other and resolve the fight, if the mistake is from both the end.

If mistake is done, say ‘It’s ok to make mistakes, learn from it’

When you say it to your kid who’s already guilty of his/ her mistake, that, “It’s ok to make mistakes, learn from it.” This encourages risk- taking and creativity without fear of judgement. Remember, when a child grows up hearing uplifting words there are tentative chances that they are likely to take initiative and correct their mistakes.


These are some of the words framed in a sentence which you can teach your kids to say and you should also adhere to praise your kid for a good work and forgive them when they make a mistake instead of being harsh on them. Words are the magical strength to build any kind of relationship and are so powerful that if you misuse them, these words can turn your friend into an enemy. Remember, positive words are not fluffy extras; they are tools for building confident, capable individuals. The best part of teaching kids to use positive words isn’t just to build good relationships with others. A child who says “I can” when faced with a tricky math problem is more likely to say “I can learn this skill” when riding a bike, or “Thank you” when someone shares their sandwich. Such kind of positive affirmative sentences help boost up confidence leading to good friendships, relationships and self- growth.
