Mothers get honest about the most annoying comments on motherhood

Parents, raise your hands if you agree. There is nothing more frustrating than an intrusive question by a complete stranger catering to your kids or parenting style in general. Sadly, we live in a world where mothers are still subjected to a lot of completely unnecessary statements and pieces of advice, while fathers are cheered on for being merely more involved parents when compared to the previous generation.

It does not matter whether these phrases come from well-meaning relatives or friendly strangers, there are certain inputs that are just not welcome. So, before you give your two cents to a new mama, keep in mind that as well-intentioned your advice might be, it could be perceived as plain annoying.

We spoke to 8 mothers to share the phrases and statements that irritated them as a mother. Here is a compilation of the things one should never, ever say to a mom. You can thank us later.

2/9

“Why do you let your daughter wear shorts? She is growing taller and has long legs!”

Maybe because she HAS long legs and likes wearing them?

3/9

"You must stop your daughter from being so stubborn about things.”

And how about you keep your mouth shut?

4/9

“Why don't you plan another baby?”

Other woman’s uterus is really none of your business.

5/9

“Why do you still breastfeed your baby?”

Because I WANT to.

6/9

"I can’t believe your husband helps with the kids!"

Okay. So, what else he was supposed to do? Leave the kids to fend for themselves when I am not around?

7/9

“Did you JUST have a baby?”

There is never a good time to ask this question. It ranks pretty much next to “how far along you are” during pregnancy. It is downright rude and uncalled for.

8/9

“You look tired!”

I am a mother of 2-year-old who doesn't necessarily sleep through the night. What else do you expect me to be? Now in addition to being tired, I feel awful about my face too. Thanks!

9/9

“Do you even manage to spend time with your kids?” (To a working mother)

This question serves no other purpose than to make me feel guilty about being a working mother. Being a working mother does not mean I do not spend time with my children, it simply means I work twice as hard to do so.
