How to set up your child's study room?

Parents and teachers everywhere have a common goal in establishing such an atmosphere of work that leads to productivity and concentration in their kids. Many times people do not notice the fact that the arrangement of furniture in their study or playing rooms is among the key factors to achieve the goal. If furniture is cleverly placed, you will make the learning environment that will not only enhance focus and make work easier but also activate creativity and learning.

2/7

Remove the distractions

In the first place, reducing the number of distracting elements is very important. Put the child's study desk or table wherever it's quiet, away from the high-traffic areas, and place it against a wall or window with a peaceful and attractive view in front of it. This will promote concentration.

3/7

Place comfortable furniture

Raghunandan Saraf, founder, CEO, Saraf Furniture says, "check the ergonomics of the furniture, for instance, the height of the surface of the table matches the child's height. Buying an ergonomic chair that can flex as per the working needs and a workspace designed for optimal working height can eliminate back pain and fatigue preventing productivity loss as well. The better posture during the child's teaching or working processes should be promoted by you."

4/7

Check light fixtures

Lighting provides an environment to have the students comfortable and proceed with learning. Placing the desk near a natural light source or one with a good design that will give sufficient lighting and not cause any eye discomfort is very important. Selected lights with soft and gentle nature allow in making the atmosphere comfortable and avoids mental tensions rising during work which gives more concentration.

5/7

Create a dedicated space

If possible, consider a cozy reading corner or a dedicated play area inside the room. This could be a separate place that serves like a study room which is not too noisy. In this room, children are able to do a combination of focused studies and creative plays, something that is healthy for their overall development.

6/7

Personalize their space

According to Nidhi Aggarwal, founder, SpaceMantra, "Make sure to add some elements that represent your child's passions or personality traits so that he or she likes the room. Show off their artworks, install motivational sayings or add random decor elements that will give that touch of fun which makes the space seem like having a lot of fun. Personalizing the area can help the child to realize that the person sitting adds to the sense of ownership and pride, which in turn, will motivate the child to spend more of their time in the study or play area."

7/7

Seek suggestions from your child

Remember, every child is different and therefore their needs are constantly changing as they grow up. Through the process of periodic evaluation and adjustment of the location of the furniture the study or play space according to your child’s needs can be maintained to be most suitable for both productivity and focus.
