Who is the parents' favourite child?
We all have asked our parents to pick their favourite kid, at least once in life. And they have always come up with a diplomatic answer and explained how they love all their children equally. But guess what? A research has put to rest all this confusion and shown how parents favour one child over the other.
What the study says
According to a study published by the Journal of Marriage and Family, 75 per cent of mothers report feeling closer to the eldest child, her first born. Interestingly, the same study was conducted ten years ago, and the results were the same. Whoa!
Younger kids are more likely to have low self-esteem!
If you are the youngest child, here's another study that may actually spoil your mood. A research by University of California says that the younger children are more likely to report "having low self-esteem caused by their parents' favouritism than first-born children, suggesting that it is generally older siblings who receive special treatment."
What psychologists say
Psychologists believe that preferential treatment to one child can turn out to be unhealthy for both the kids, and most parents don't even realise they are practicing it in their daily life.
On a funny note...
Guess, the elder ones now have another reason (that too a scientific one!) to pull the legs of their younger siblings and claim what they always knew!
