They are very common in Indian households, infamous for being temperamental and loud. But very few realise that there is much more to these pups. Here are 9 super interesting facts about Pomeranian dogs that you probably had no idea about.

These little energy balls got their name from Pomerania, a region in Northern Europe, where they originated.

Poms generally weigh 7 to 10 pounds and interestingly, they are the descendants of sled dogs.

This breed was not always so small. They in fact weighed 20 to 30 pounds back in the day and were eventually bred down by Queen Victoria of England.

A Pom’s tail is very important because it helps in differentiating the breed from other spitz. Their tails are never curly. It is straight over the dog’s back and lies flat.

The most famous Pomeranian dog in the world till now, was called Boo. Boo had 16 million followers on Facebook and even had collectibles and books on him. The second famous Pom is called Jiff. He holds the Guinness World Record for being the fastest dog on two legs. This furry guy ran 10 meters on his hind legs in 6.56 seconds and five meters on his front legs in 7.76 seconds.

Pomeranians have appeared in a few films too, like Titanic, Superman Returns and Dumb and Dumber.

Not many know this fun fact. Poms and cats get along the most if we look at dog and cat relationships. However, this is possible mostly when you introduce a kitten to the dog in the house and not vice versa. This is because dogs bond better, they break ice in no time.
