There's no substitute to hardwork, but there's a trick to it...

In January this year, Anand Mahindra posted an inspiring #MondayMotivation tweet on X, where he shared his childhood experience of learning backflips and how he learned a great life lesson from this experience. Mahindra said that as a kid, he initially thought that he didn't have the innate skills to learn backflips and had almost giveup on learning it. But, with practice and consistent efforts he finally learnt it. Looking back to this childhood memory, he emphasised on the importance of consistent practice that can help one be successful. Combined with a proper method, he shared that even tasks that seem impossible can become achievable.

Mahindra's tweet read: “I gave up trying to learn backflips as a kid presuming I didn’t have the innate skill required. But with the application of method & practice, we can achieve what may initially seem impossible for us to do…” He even shared a video of a Taekwondo school in Korea where the teacher taught the difficult task by breaking it into smaller, doable steps.

Quality of work is more important than quantity

At a time when debates about 70, 90, and 120 hours work per week and work-life balance are making the headlines, Anand Mahindra recently shared his views on the importance of one's quality of work. Mahindra strongly believes that the focus should be on the output and impact of work, rather than the number of hours spent working. Talking on this issue at the Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue 2025 recently, Mahindra said, “I think this debate is in the wrong direction... My point is we have to focus on the quality of work, not on the quantity of work. So it’s not about 48, 40 hours, it’s not about 70 hours, it’s not about 90 hours.”

Life should not only be about work

At the same event, Mahindra also spoke about the importance of living a well-rounded life. He said that instead of focussing only work, one should also have exposure to different fields, including arts and culture-- as this helps one in making better decisions in life. "You make better decisions when you have a whole brain, when you are informed about arts, culture, that's when you make a good decision."

Having good inter-personal relationships helps one become a good leader

Anand Mahindra has also spoken about the importance of spending quality time with one's family and the need for work-life balance. Sharing his views, Mahindra said that spending time with family and friends can help one be more creative and a better leader. "If we are only in the office all the time, we are not with other families, we are not with other families. How are we going to understand what people want to buy? " he said at the event.

Despite having a busy schedule, Anand Mahindra is a quite active on social media where he often shares his views on various topics and inspiring videos. When a user asked him how much time he spends on X (formerly Twitter), Mahindra had replied, "I want to make it clear— I’m on X not because I’m lonely. My wife is amazing, and I love spending time with her. I’m not here to make friends. I’m here because people don’t realize how powerful a business tool this is. On one platform, I can get feedback from 11 million people."
