6 ways spirituality helps people stay mindful and demure

Spirituality and changes

Spirituality, a heavy word that makes people think of men clad in saffron, or young boys and girls meditating on an isolated mountain, is not as complicated as people think of it. And no, spirituality does not ask you to renounce the world, it only helps you stay in sync with the energies of the world.
And as the words ‘very mindful, very demure’, which refer to being centred, aware, calm, and not too extravagant, are getting popular, it is a great time to learn how spirituality can help people (both men, and women) stay mindful and demure.

2/7

Living in the present

At its core, the best thing about spirituality is that it teaches you how to live in the present. And most of the times, you stay mindful, and demure, but living in the present moment!
The world we live in today is filled with indulgences and excesses of all kinds. From instant food to 10-minute deliveries, everything is available to us and so it becomes easy for the mind to constantly wander here and there. One moment we are thinking about how weird the oats tasted in the morning, the next moment we are planning to get playing cards delivered to our home! And in this ‘easy’ world where having a monkey mind feels normal, spirituality teaches us how to stay focused, to stay consistent, and to live below our means.

3/7

Inner peace, inner calm

Another way spirituality helps us stay mindful and demure is by helping us achieve inner peace and calm. A spiritual person, no matter how troubled and stressed, will remain calm and think about solutions rather than fretting about the possible outcomes. Be it through prayers, meditation, or other forms of spiritual practice, spirituality gives us a way to remain calm and centred in times of chaos.

4/7

Self-awareness

One of the biggest questions in this world is - Who am I? There are times when the most brilliant of minds are stuck in a rut, trying to answer themselves who they really are, what their motive is, and whatnot! And when they can’t find answers, they burn out. And in situations like these, spirituality helps through self-reflection. As soon as you begin your spiritual journey you are tasked with finding out about your deeper thoughts, emotions, and motivations. And then over time, by regularly journaling, meditating, or just sitting in silence, we get the answers to the questions we have about ourselves and become more aware of ourselves.

5/7

More compassion, more empathy

One of the most important aspects of spirituality is compassion. You are not spiritual if you are not kind, caring, and compassionate towards all beings who mean you no harm. And when you start developing a sense of compassion and empathy for others, the people around you, you start becoming more mindful and more demure.

You are more present with people, you start listening actively, your mind does not drift easily, you do not get bored of people, and much more. Overall, it makes you a pleasant person to be around.

6/7

Detachment from ego

With ego, the mind and heart can never be demure, or mindful. And no matter what sect or religion, spiritual teachings focus on letting go of the ego, the part of us that constantly wants validation, power, and fame. And this ego is the negative spark that burns the fire of a self-centred, distracted, and selfish personality.

Spirituality teaches people that true happiness and peace come from separating yourself from the ego and connecting with something greater than ourselves.

7/7

A sense of purpose in life

Spirituality gives people a sense of purpose and meaning in life, which is very important for staying mindful. When you have a clear sense of purpose, you’re less likely to get troubled by the ups and downs that are inevitable in life. And when your purpose is clear, you focus on what truly matters, what you truly want to achieve, and you walk on the right path.
Finally realising your purpose and what you really want to do helps you stay grounded and mindful because it gives you a clear direction in life.
