What is EFT tapping?

EFT, or Emotional Freedom Technique, has come up as the latest buzzword in the spirituality arena. Simply put, EFT Tapping means tapping specific parts on your body to release stress in some sort. In EFT, you gently tap on your head, your hand, or another part of your body, and these are your energy pathways that help release the excess emotions.
The idea behind EFT is also pretty simple. You have negative emotions and unresolved trauma in your body that create blockages and imbalances in the path. And by tapping specific points, you release those pent-up energies and heal yourself internally.

How tapping helps the system

EFT tapping is believed and proven to be a form of acupressure where instead of needles you use just your fingers to stimulate and activate certain points. The gentle pressure from the fingertips, while tapping, helps you focus on a particular thing, be it pain, anger, pressure, or any other emotion, and this tapping helps calm you down by the stimulation it gives.

How to do EFT Tapping?

EFT Tapping is pretty simple, and when you pair it with a certain statement it helps calm your nerves. For example, suppose you feel very anxious about a result or a job offer call, and you can feel yourself stressing and sweating about it. So to calm down a little bit just tell yourself internally ‘I feel anxious but I know that the result will be in my favour’ and while repeating this internally gently tap near your heart, if you feel your heartbeat is fast, or on your forehead if you feel that this feeling is giving you a headache.

How does it help?

Our nervous system responds to stress by activating the sympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for the fight, flight, or freeze reaction. And when it is triggered, this can lead to anxiety, panic, and more. And tapping helps activate the parasympathetic nervous system, which in turn promotes some form of rest.
It is believed and also felt by people that EFT Tapping lowers their stress level, makes them calmer about the situation, and helps them stay grounded.

EFT tapping in spiritual activities

EFT tapping is also used by people who are into spiritual practices to activate their chakras. It is seen as the easy method to clear energetic blocks, and when the heavy energy is released or let go, it helps in better meditation, mindfulness, and more. Some people also pair EFT with affirmations, prayers, or setting their intentions.
For example, one method that anyone can try is to sit down with their legs crossed, close their eyes, and keep their hands on their chest. Now start deep breathing and gently tap your chest, making the slightest movement, but just keeping your hands in motion. As your mind focuses on the light taps and the breathwork, it will eventually calm you down and help have a better meditation session.

Tapping the chakras

In EFT Tapping, one can also try to tap or pat specific points in your body, related to the chakra, to have some relief. For example, it is said that the Throat chakra is responsible for your voice, speech, diction, public speaking skills, and the likes. And so, if you feel your Throat chakra is blocked, try to tap or do some gentle movements on your throat as you practice. For example, suppose you are practicing a speech in front of the mirror and you feel that in front of a crowd you might mess up. In this case, keep two fingers on your throat, and as you ready yourself to practice again tell yourself that you will speak excellently, in the form of an affirmation. Then lightly tap your throat 15-30 times, or more, and start speaking.
Doing this, you might feel a little more relaxed and less anxious while practicing or during the big day.
