Heavy birds who can fly



When we look at the small birds soaring through the sky, we too have a wish to fly and be free like them. But humans, and even some birds, cannot fly owing to their weight! But still, certain heavy birds defy it and fly along. Here we list some of them.

One of the heaviest flying birds in the world is the Kori Bustard. Even though these birds weigh well over 12 kilograms, they still fly when needed, especially in cases of danger.

Another heavy bird that is known for its flight is the Great Bustard from Asia. Most of these birds are over 10 kilos in weight, and yet they have strong wings that help them take off and fly.

Trumpeter Swan



Another heavy and rather beautiful bird that can fly long distances is the Trumpeter Swan. Weighing about 12-16 kilograms, this Swan is a graceful flier and even migrates long distances during seasons.

Mute swans are common in lakes and rivers and are also heavy-flying birds. They easily weigh about 12 kgs and need a long water surface to run and take off into the sky.

One of the largest and heaviest vultures that is capable of flying is the Eurasian black vulture. These vultures can weigh over 14 kilos, and yet they fly at high altitudes owing to their broad wings.

A bird that flies and glides through the sky without much flapping of the wings is the Albatross. It has one of the largest wings, weighs about 12 kgs, and yet glides through the sky.
