Current world leaders and their beloved pets

Animals are a human's greatest friend, and when you are in a space as diabolical as politics, true friends are hard to find but very much needed. Along with influential political leaders, the lives of their families also change when they enter the public arena, at this point true love and friendship often come in the form of pets who fill the hole in life with their honesty and companionship. Below, find a list of the current world leaders and the pets they have!

Emmanuel Macron and Nemo

While the French president might be going viral for his political and marriage troubles, one being that has remained constant in his life is his black Labrador Retriever-Griffon dog, Nemo. The furry friend who has appeared in multiple conferences and meetings was born in southern France in 2015 where he was abandoned soon. He was living as a shelter dog in 2017 when he was adopted by Macron's wife. While he was named Marin before, he was given the name 'Nemo' based on the character Captain Nemo from Jules Vern's novel '20,000 Leagues Under the Sea', a favourite of the President's.

Narendra Modi and Deepjyoti

The Indian Prime Minister's love for cows is well known across the world. A follower of the Hindu religion, he also considers cows as holy animals and is known to keep Punganur cows, an indigenous breed from the state of Andhra Pradesh at his abode. In 2024, he shared the arrival of a newborn calf in the house whom he named 'Deepjyoti' because of the mark on its forehead that resembles a lamp. He even posted a video of himself playing, petting and kissing the calf.

Vladimir Putin and Yume, Buffy, Pasha and Verni

Russian president Vladimir Putin is known to be quite fond of dogs. As intimidating as he might seem, the 73-year-old showers enough love upon his four dogs along with pushing for conservation efforts for Russia's endangered dog species. What's interesting about Putin's pets is the fact that they were all gifted to him. Pasha, a Sarplaninac and Verni, an Alabi, were gifts from the presidents of Serbia and Turkmenistan. Whereas Yume, an Akita and Buffy, a Bulgarian Shepherd were gifted to him by Japan's Akita Prefecture and Bulgaria respectively.

Keir Starmer, Jojo and Prince

Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer has two kids with his wife Victoria, whom he married in 2017. The family who resides at 10 Downing Street has two cats Jojo and Prince. While Jojo is a rescue cat the family already had while moving into the famous abode, Prince, a Siberian kitten joined them last year after the kids were convinced to get another cat rather than a German Shepherd.

Lee Jae-Myung and Bobby

South Korean President Lee Jae-Myung and his family recently adopted a dog named Bobby in July 2025. The President's office even announced the Maltipoo dog, a hybrid of Maltese and poodle as the "first dog" on July 14, 2025.
