Pablo Picasso

One of the most iconic painters in the world, the man who forwarded the Cubist movement, is Pablo Picasso. He is one of the most well-known and influential artists and began painting at a very young age. From paintings to drawing and sculptures, Picasso’s creative mind gave birth to creations in all genres, and his geometric shapes were a breath of fresh air in the art world.
And here we mention the 5 most famous Picasso paintings art enthusiasts should know about.

2/6

Guernica

One of the most famous Picasso paintings, ‘Guernica’ is an oil painting on canvas. It is famous, politically powerful, and can ignite a range of feelings and emotions in viewers.
He painted it in response to the bombing of the Spanish town of Guernica during the Spanish Civil War, and the black and white painting conveys the right gloomy and tragic mood that the world sensed during that time. From distorted animal figures, to crying women with dead children, ‘Guernica’ showed it all.

3/6

The Old Guitarist

A painting from Picasso’s ‘Blue period’, ‘The Old Guitarist’ is an art beauty to say the least.
It shows an old man sitting on the ground, playing a guitar, and his body is thin, almost skeleton-like, and his head seems to be bowed in sadness, just like his wrinkled and weak face. And as blue is often associated with feelings of sorrow, the background and character covered in shades of blue conveys the feeling pretty well.
And today, with modern inventions, art experts have found out that beneath ‘The Old Guitarist’, there is another painting hidden which means Picasso had painted over it.

4/6

‘Portrait of Dora Maar’

A ‘Cubist’ beauty by Picasso, ‘The Portrait of Dora Maar’ is a must-know painting.
Dora Maar was a photographer, poet, and painter, and she was also Picasso’s lover and muse. And she was also the character Picasso painted a lot, with a mix of Cubism and Surrealism in his definitions. In this painting, Dora’s face is shown from multiple angles at once, be it her eyes, nose, and mouth, and there is a playful rearrangement of her features.

5/6

La Reve

‘La Reve’, also known as ‘The Dream’ is another beautiful creation by Picasso. It is a romantic and colourful painting with a woman in all her feminine beauty. The painting shows a young girl sitting in a chair, with her eyes closed, lost in a dream. And there isn’t a dominant Cubist element to the painting, but rather an abstract form which feels like a delight to the eyes.
The colours too are bright and vibrant, and there is a softness in the creation.

6/6

‘The Kiss’

One of the later paintings by Picasso, ‘The Kiss’ is described as the epitome of his work. It shows two lovers, abstracted and in geometric forms, and they can be seen kissing, their faces and hands merged, as if removing the physical distance between their bodies. The brushwork is strong, the colours are bold, and the sleek lines form the perfect divisions between their elements.
As the hands and faces merge, the artist shows how deeply and ‘together’ in love they are. (All paintings from Pablo Picasso/Website)
