These treks are often characterised by treacherous terrain, unpredictable weather, extreme altitudes, and the constant demand for physical and mental resilience. Everest Base Camp Trek, Nepal

The EBC is usually considered a moderate trek, but for experienced hikers. t's the extreme altitude of the trek that makes it so challenging. At that altitude, there’s always the risk of acute mountain sickness, sudden snowstorms and icy trails. The Cordillera Huayhuash trek in the Peruvian Andes is famed for its isolation and steep elevation changes. Here, the passes reach nearly 5,000 meters. Unmarked trails, extreme weather, and scarce amenities are some of the challenges that trekkers face on this trail. Drakensberg Grand Traverse, South Africa

This trek means over 200 kilometers through rugged cliffs, some of the deepest valleys in the world, and unpredictable weather. And as if these were not enough, there are no marked trails. This means trekkers will have to rely solely on navigation skills. But if you love solitude and raw natural beauty, this trail will keep you busy for sure.

Snowman Trek, Bhutan

Often described as the “Everest of treks,” Bhutan’s Snowman Trek spans 16 high-altitude passes above 5,000 meters. Trekkers face freezing temperatures, deep snow, and weeks of isolation in some of the remotest regions of the Himalayas. It’s extreme for most trekkers, so understandably, only experienced trekkers tackle this.

This Patagonian trek is notorious for fierce winds, heavy rain, and rugged mountainous terrain. Trekkers cover 130 kilometers in remote wilderness, where weather can shift from sunny to stormy within minutes. So why the craze for this?
