Holding traditional wealth in the form of gold, precious jewels and cash, India is noted for being home to thousands of shrines that are repositories of wealth. Now over the years, these temples have been receiving generous donations from the ardent devotees who believe in giving back to the world.
On this note, let’s have a look at five of the richest temples in India, whose wealth will leave you shocked.

Padmanabhaswamy Temple, Kerala

Padmanabhaswamy is one of the most famous temples in India. The temple tops the chart of the richest temples in India. This ancient temple, dedicated to Lord Vishnu, made headlines in 2011, when a hidden vault was opened. From there came out treasures worth an estimated $20 billion! Can you beat that? The wealth revealed came out in the form of ancient gold coins, hundreds of diamonds, unbelievable emeralds, and a throne made of 100 percent gold.
Today the temple also remains a mystery and is run by a trust which is headed by the royal family of Travancore. There is a vault called Vault B which till date remains unopened because of several religious and legal issues. God knows what wealth will be revealed when Vault B is opened!

Tirumala Venkateswara Temple, Andhra Pradesh

Another incredibly rich temple in India is Tirumala Venkateswara Temple which is also known as the Tirupati Temple. Dedicated to Lord Venkateswara (a form of Vishnu), this temple in Chittoor district is among the most visited pilgrimage sites in the world! As per temple reports, the temple is visited by over 50,000 to 100,000 devotees on a daily basis.
As far as the temple's annual income is concerned, it is estimated to exceed INR 3,000 crore (over $360 million). All the wealth comes from heavy donations, tonnes of gold, and an extensive collection of hair offerings.

Shirdi Sai Baba Temple, Maharashtra

The next spot is taken by the Shirdi Sai Baba Temple in Ahmednagar district, Maharashtra. It is dedicated to the 19th-century saint Sai Baba and attracts millions of devotees each year. The crowd can be seen especially on weekends, Thursdays (day devoted to Sai Baba) and other religious ocassions.
The temple receives donations from across the globe and reportedly receives over INR 400 crore every year, contributing towards its richest temple titles.

Vaishno Devi Temple, Jammu and Kashmir

Set on top of the Trikuta Mountains, the Vaishno Devi Temple is a spiritual hub. It attracts over 10 million pilgrims every year. The estimated annual income of the temple is more than INR 500 crore. The temple trust uses a significant portion of its wealth for public welfare projects like road development, education, and healthcare facilities in the region.

Siddhivinayak Temple, Mumbai

Siddhivinayak Temple, dedicated to Lord Ganesh, holds important religious significance for Hindus. The temple receives donations from big Bollywood celebrities, industrialists, and political figures, making it one of the richest temples in the country. The temple’s wealth is estimated to be around ₹INR 50-200 crore, with gold and silver offerings.
