Top 10 countries with highest Human Freedom Index: Is India among them?

Since freedom is a fundamental aspect of human rights, it is an important force behind advancement that enables individuals to live with dignity. Human freedom is one of the most significant drivers driving growth, however many other elements also play a role. It's priceless and plays a part in human progress. This also highlights the need to measure carefully and analyse its impact on people and society.

In line with this, the Human Freedom Index, co-published by the Cato Institute, the Fraser Institute, offers a detailed evaluation of freedom in 165 countries and territories. This comprehensive report is based on 86 indicators across 12 categories, measures personal and economic freedom to rank the freest nations globally. It adds, “Human freedom is a social concept that recognizes the dignity of individuals and is defined here as negative liberty or the absence of coercive constraint.”

The Human Freedom Index combines two crucial aspects, economic and personal freedom, for the report. Each is measured on a scale from 0 to 10, with 10 being the largest degree of freedom. Travel, religion, and expression are examples of personal freedom, while trade restrictions, government size, and access to sound money are examples of economic freedom. These components come together to give a complete picture of people's freedom in their countries.
