Qatar Airways suspends scheduled flights as Qatari airspace remains shut; update expected on March 7
In a recent update, Qatar Airways has announced suspension of scheduled flights temporarily following the closure of Qatari airspace. The official update was issued by the airline on its X profile. The suspension will remain in effect until aviation authorities confirm that the airspace over Qatar has been safely reopened. The airline also mentioned that normal operations will resume only after the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority announces it is safe for flights. The advisory also mentioned that an operational update is expected to be issued on 7 March at 09:00 Doha time (06:00 UTC).
It further reads, “We are working around the clock to organise additional relief flights where operationally possible and will share further updates as soon as they are confirmed. Affected passengers will be contacted directly by Qatar Airways with their flight details, arrangements and next steps. Passengers are kindly requested not to proceed to the airport unless they have received an official notification from Qatar Airways confirming their flight.”
For those stuck in Doha
The update further talks about the passengers in Doha. It says airline representatives have been stationed at designated hotels to provide assistance to travellers with questions related to relief flights and revised itineraries.
“Please ensure your contact details are up to date so we can reach you with important information. Details can be updated via the Qatar Airways website or via the Qatar Airways mobile app”, Qatar Airways read further in its statement.
“We sincerely apologise for the disruption caused and thank passengers for their patience and understanding,” the airline said.
The situation remains unpredictable in the Middle East given the current situation. Before any further update, aviation authorities are expected to review conditions but till then, Qatar Airways continues to work closely with relevant authorities to restart operations once clearance is given.
