A road trip is the perfect way to unwind and reconnect with yourself first, then nature, history, and adventure—all within a few hours’ drive. You get misty hills, sun-kissed beaches, lush forests, and even serene lakes near Mumbai, where you can drive to for a change. In short, you get a variety of scenic getaways that will suit every kind of traveler. From the evergreen charm of Lonavala to the coastal serenity of Alibaug, these road trips promise not just a change of scenery but a breath of fresh air.


Here is a fun itinerary for you to try:

Day 1: Mumbai to Lonavala

The distance between the two lies around 85 km, approximately 2 hours of travel. If you are on a bike, you will definitely enjoy the cool breeze stroking your face and the scenic views it is surrounded by. The highlights for this short trip will be the famous Tiger’s Leap, Rajmachi Fort, and Bushi Dam. You can travel using buses, cars , motorcycles, and even trains or cab services. It is the best hangout place for college students, family, and friends for picnics or just an impromptu getaway. While you are in Lonavala, do not miss the Tungarli Lake, an artificial reservoir built by the British. Its deep blue water makes it the perfect place for family picnics.

Day 2: Lonavala to Mahabaleshwar

The distance between the two is approximately 180 km, roughly 5-6 hours. You can reach here via bus, car, or train. The winding ghats and lush greenery will take your breath away. Once you are in Mahabaleshwar, start by exploring the Venna Lake for boating or horse riding along the riverbanks. If you visit there in the season of strawberry picking, visit Mapro Garden to enjoy their fresh strawberry desserts and flavorful sandwiches. In the mid-evening, head to Arthur’s Seat point for breathtaking valley views and enjoy the beautiful orange sunset there amid the windy and cool mountain breeze.

Day 3: Mahabaleshwar to Kaas Plateau to Satara

Begin your day by enjoying a wonderful ride to the beautiful Kaas plateau, or plateau of flowers. Situated 25 km away from the Satara district is a beautiful place known as Kas Pathar; out of 624 flowering species, 39 are found in this region. This is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The drive takes roughly about 2 hours and offers a magical view around the months of August to October. For nature lovers, a brisk walk through this blooming paradise will offer you a great experience, even for photographers alike. After you are done enjoying the surreal view of Kaas, drive down to Satara city, just 30 minutes away. Visit Thoseghar waterfalls and Sajjangad fort that offers panoramic views of the mountains.

Day 4: Satara to Kolhapur.

The distance between the two is approximately 130 km (3-4 hours). Start your perfect morning with a hearty breakfast of poha, misal pav, and a cup of hot filter coffee. Exploring the rich cultural city of Kolhapur, the journey is smooth and scenic, rummaging through lush countryside.

Once in Kolhapur, start by heading straight to the Mahalakshmi Temple. An ancient temple dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi, a major spiritual and architectural attraction. Head to the new palace museum later that exhibits royal artifacts and photographs from the brave Maratha dynasty. If time allows, you can shop for the authentic Kolhapuri slippers and handmade leather goods at the local markets.

Day 5: Kolhapur to Goa (North)

The drive from Kolhapur to Goa is approximately 6 hours, passing through the scenic Amboli Ghat, known to offer heavenly waterfalls, mystic mountain views, and lush greenery. Arrive in North Goa by afternoon; choose between Arambol and Vagator if you are looking for great water sports and snacks. In the evening, dine at a beach shack like Curlies for a casual vibe or Thalassa for Greek cuisine and sunset. Enjoy some live music or simply relax on the beach while the stars are out.

Day 6: Explore Goa

Goa offers the best of beaches, forts and markets. Start your morning with a light breakfast, then head to Fort Aguada, it is a 17th century Portuguese fort, with beautiful views of the Arabian sea. Visit Anjuna flea market on wednesdays to buy souvenirs, spices and handicrafts. While in Goa do not miss on the prawn curry rice, bebinca and sorpotel.

Day 7: Goa to Mumbai

It's time to start your return journey to Mumbai on this final day of your amazing road trip. Depending on traffic and road, the journey is long (approx. 590–600 km, 10–12 hours), so if you're driving, start early to make the most of the day. Lush greenery, curvy roads, and some wonderful pit stops await along the scenic NH66 coast road route, especially via Sawantwadi, Ratnagiri, and Chiplun. You can also drive your rental back, park it, and fly or take a train back to Mumbai if you do not wish to extend the long drive further. Trains such as the Konkan Kanya Express and Mandovi Express offer a scenic railway journey along the coast, and Goa has multiple flights daily.
