Birdwatching in Maharashtra: Top 5 bird sanctuaries every traveller should visit

If you thought Maharashtra is only about heritage hotels, beaches and Bollywood, you were so wrong! The state is also home to some famous wildlife parks and bird sanctuaries, each offering unique ecosystems. The bird sanctuaries need special mention as these might not be as popular as those in Rajasthan but are equally beautiful, opportunities for birdwatching enthusiasts.
The state is blessed with Western Ghats which is a heaven for birdwatchers. Some beautiful bird sanctuaries in the state are important habitats for hundreds of resident and migratory species that come here from as far as Europe, Central Asia, and Siberia.
Spaces near Mumbai and Navi Mumbai are filled with pink flamingoes. Bhigwan and Karnala offer a unique glimpse into India’s avian diversity. Be it a photographer, an ornithologist, or just a bird enthusiast, these bird sanctuaries are an ideal escape into the wild.
