Bengaluru’s ‘My e-Khata, My Hakku’ campaign gets massive response; 2,939 applications received for property regularisation
In a recent update, Karnataka’s capital, Bengaluru is all set to digitise property ownership. The campaign has gained momentum, with the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) which has received 2,939 applications under the newly launched “My e-Khata, My Hakku” initiative. It is a part of the Karnataka government’s “Bhoo Guarantee” scheme aimed at simplifying property documentation. As per reports, it’s going to help lakhs of residents secure legal ownership records through digital e-Khatas.
The campaign has been launched at a crucial time for Bengaluru’s rapidly expanding real estate market. A significant number of homeowners are struggling with paper work and documentation, especially those linked to B-Khata properties.
The first phase of the drive was organised on May 16 across five city corporations in Bengaluru and as per data, around 1,242 applications were verified and approved. They were disposed of on the spot. Now the remaining 1,697 applications would be processed within the given timeline. Under the new scheme, the Karnataka government has reduced the conversion fee for B-Khata to A-Khata properties from 5% of the guidance value to just 2%. It is almost 60% relief to property owners.
Applications submitted during the drive included:
e-Khata issuance request
mutation services
new Khata registrations
B-to-A Khata conversions
grievance redressal
But the largest category was formed by e-Khata requests as there were 1,080 submissions. Of these, 568 applications were reportedly cleared immediately.
Mutation applications and inheritance or transfer also recorded active participation. 64 out of 139 mutation requests were processed and 90 of the 236 new Khata applications were approved during the event itself. In addition, 425 applications were received for B-to-A Khata conversion, of which 120 were cleared instantly.
More about “My e-Khata, My Hakku”
The “My e-Khata, My Hakku” campaign is expected to take place every Saturday for the next three months. It will be organised at different centres across Bengaluru. Officials estimate that around 5,000 citizens could benefit from this and special counters have also been organised to assist residents with documentation errors, corrections and other grievances that have been pending for a long time.
Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar called the scheme a significant relief for lakhs of property owners in the city and that the initiative would make it easier to access loans. It will be easier for people to sell their properties.
Understanding e-Khata
An e-Khata is a digitally maintained property certificate recording all details of the house, including ownership details, tax history and property classification. Civic authorities believe the digital transition will improve transparency and reduce corruption.
The Karnataka government estimates that nearly seven lakh B-Khata properties in Bengaluru could benefit from the scheme. As of now over 25 lakh properties have already been brought under the e-Khata system.
