Story behind Tirumala Tirupati temple: Why Lord Venkateswara lives on the Tirumala hills
The Tirupati Balaji temple, also known as the Tirumala Venkateswara Temple, is a very important place for pilgrims to go. The temple is in Andhra Pradesh on the Tirumala hills and is dedicated to Venkateswara, a form of Vishnu. Every year, millions of people go to the temple because they believe that the god will grant their wishes and protect them during the difficult times of the Kali Yuga.
Hindu mythology says that Lord Venkateswara's presence on the Tirumala hills is connected to a divine event that happened with the sage Bhrigu.

Bhrigu, the sage, tried to figure out which of the three Hindu gods, Brahma, Shiva, or Vishnu, was the best. The smart man went to Vaikuntha to see Vishnu, but he was sleeping. He kicked Vishnu in the chest out of anger. Vishnu wasn't mad. Instead, he calmly pushed the sage's foot and asked if it hurt. Lakshmi, Vishnu's wife, was angry because the sage had insulted the holy place where she lived, which was Vishnu's chest.
Goddess Lakshmi was so angry that she left Vaikuntha and came to Earth. Vishnu couldn't stand being away from her, so he came to Earth to look for her. Finally, he chose the Tirumala hills as Lord Venkateswara.
People who prayed to the Lord on the Tirumala hills say he lived under a tamarind tree in an anthill. He then married Padmavathi at the nearby Tiruchanur Padmavathi Temple. It is believed that she is an incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi.
Some people also believe that Lord Venkateswara borrowed money from Kubera, the god of wealth, to pay for his big wedding in the sky with Padmavathi. People who go to the Tirumala temple believe that the gifts they give help the Lord pay off this debt in heaven. This is a way to talk about the long-standing practice of giving gifts and making offerings.
The Seshachalam hills are one of the seven hills that make up Tirumala. People think that they stand for the seven heads of Adisesha, the heavenly snake that is connected to Lord Vishnu. People think that Lord Venkateswara chose this holy place to live forever so he could help and protect people during the Kali Yuga.
For people who believe, the temple is more than just a place to pray. It is also a sign of faith, patience, and God's grace. People from all over India and the world come to Tirumala every year because they think that Lord Venkateswara lives there and hears their prayers.
