5 Unique Offerings at the Guruvayoor Temple

Kerala's Guruvayoor temple is one of the most popular Sree Krishna temples in the world. Along with the deity and the myth, even the offerings in the temple are unique. From Thulabharam to Udhayasthamana Pooja, here is a look at some of the unique offerings at Guruvayoor Temple.

2/6

Krishnanattam

Reportedly, the Guruvayoor temple is the only place in the world where one can offer Krishnanattam, a dance form, as an offering to God. Devotees offer Krishnanattam to Guruvayoorappan for removing obstacles in marriage as well as childbirth.

3/6

Thulabharam

Thulabharam is one of the known rituals in the temple. But what makes this ritual is the items that one can offer to the deity as part of the ritual. For the unversed, in this ritual, a devotee sits on one scale of a giant balance while the other is filled with materials equivalent to their body weight. From gold to old newspaper, from jaggery to flute, a devotee can offer a wide range of items depending on their interest.

4/6

Ahassu

Yet another unique ritual of the Guruvayoor temple. The Ahassu Vazhipadu is something like a Prasadam Package you get from the temple, that includes a portion of every offering made to the Lord the whole day. From Appam to Sandal paste, you get it all.

5/6

Udayasthamana Pooja

This ritual is yet another unique one in Guruvayoor Temple. The ritual consists of 15 special poojas and 18 rituals conducted throughout the day. This ritual is often called 'mini utsavam' because of its grandeur.

6/6

Anayoottu

As you all know, Guruvayoor has one of the largest captive elephant sanctuaries. With the unique ritual, Anayoottu, devotees can sponsor a special feast for the temple elephant. As per Hindu tradition, feeding an elephant is akin to seeking Lord Ganesha's blessing, ensuring the removal of life hurdles.
