Ekdanta Sankashti Chaturthi 2026: Date, moonrise time, puja rituals and significance
Chaturthi tihti holds a great religious and spiritual significance because it is associated with Lord Ganesha. This day is observed by a large number of Lord Ganesha devotees. On this auspicious day, devotees observe strict fast from dawn to dusk and they offer their sincere prayers to Lord Ganpati with immense devotion and purity. There are two Chaturthi observances in a month during Shukla paksha and Krishna paksha. This month, Ekdanta Sankashti Chaturthi vrat will be observed by the devotees on Chaturthi tithi of Krishna paksha in the month of Jyeshtha. The fast is being observed on May 5, 2026.

Sankashti Chaturthi falls every month on the fourth day of Krishna Paksha and this month Ekdanta Sankashti Chaturthi is going to take place in the month of Jyeshtha. Chaturthi that falls during Shukla Paksha is known as Vinayak Chaturthi and Chaturthi that occurs during Krishna Paksha known as Sankasthi Chaturthi. This day holds a great religious and spiritual significance and devotees of Lord Ganesha observe fast from sunrise till sunset and break it after the moonrise.
According to Hindu scriptures, Lord Ganesha is the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati and known as the first worshipped God means he is Pratham Pujya and people worship him first before performing any puja ritual and also before starting any auspicious event. No auspicious event can be performed without worshipping Lord Ganesha first.
People need to worship him with deep faith and pure devotion if they want to appease Lord Ganesha. It is very important for the devotees to stay away from any type tamasik activity and bad habit such as drinking alcohol, eating non vegetarian food, being cruel to animals and maintain celibacy while observing the fast.
Lord Ganesha is known for removing all types of obstacles and hurdles from the life of devotees and he brings prosperity in their life and that's why people worship him with devotion because everyone needs prosperity, happiness and good fortune in life. They express their gratitude to the Lord and start their fast with his blessings. Devotees, who worship him with pure intentions, get blessed by the Lord with good health, wealth, good luck and prosperity.
1. Devotees should wake up early in the morning and take a bath before starting puja rituals.
2. Clean the home and especially puja room.
3. Take a wooden plank and place an idol of Lord Ganesha.
4. Light a diya with desi ghee, apply haldi tilak to the Lord, adorn him with garland, durva grass and offer Laddoo as a bhog prasad.
5. Offer fruits especially banana and meetha paan then place kalash filled with water.
6. Recite Ekdanta Sankasthi Chaturthi katha and recite bindayak ji ki katha.
7. Chant Ganesha mantra 108 times to seek his blessings.
8. Chant aarti - "Jai Ganesha Jai Ganesha Jai Ganesha Deva" "Shendur Lal Chadhayo"
9. Offer bhog prasad to Ganesh ji and then offer arghya to Moon God.
10. Distribite bhog among the family members, break your fast and have sattvik food without onion and garlic.
