Actress Paridhi Sharma, who was last seen in the historical drama show Jodha Akhar alongside Rajat Tokas, will soon make a comeback on the small screen. The actress has been finalized by the makers of the show Patiala Babes. Paridhi will play the character of a mother to a teenager in the show. Paridhi, who played the role of Jodha, was on a maternity break. While talking to BT, a source associated with the show, “Deepika was auditioned for the part, but she is not doing it. The actress, who was last seen in the reality show 'Bigg Boss', will play Shani's mother in this mythological show. Says Juhi, "I was offered several shows, but being a hands-on mother, I wanted my child to grow up enough to understand that she has a working mom. I was always dedicated to my work, but the need of the hour was to show the same dedication towards my daughter."

Ask her why she chose to return with mythological than a daily soap and she counters, "Why not a mythological show? I have not attempted the genre earlier. I didn't want to repeat myself and this character allows me to experiment a new dimension, both in terms of performance and appearance. I know I will also be asked why I agreed to play a mother, but that is something which viewers will get to know after watching the show. Besides, gods don't age!" Juhi has lost a lot of weight — she's now 17 kgs lighter. She says, "I am happy about facing the camera again without worrying how I will look."

Sonali Kulkarni returns to TV with this show: Actress Sonali Kulkarni, who has been part of reality shows Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa (2007) and Khatron Ke Khiladi (2008), is returning to the small screen after several years with Tamanna. Informs a source associated with the show, “After contemplating several names, we chanced upon Sonali’s profile. Rati returns to TV in a negative role: The long hunt for the actress to play a pivotal role in Siddharth Kumar Tewary’s Begusarai has ended with Rati Pandey. The actress, who has played positive roles so far, will be now be seen in a negative character. Incidentally, the makers of the show, which also features Shweta Tiwari, had originally approached Urvashi Dholakia. They wanted to recreate the magic Urvashi and Shweta brought to the screen in their show Kasautii Zindagii Kay eight years ago. However, the deal fell through because of monetary differences. They then approached Shveta Salve for the same part, but that didn’t materialise either. Rati says, “I was enjoying my sabbatical and had become choosy about the roles I took up. This role is something that I have not attempted before.”

Ritu Shivpuri: TV industry is booming: Ritu Shivpuri, who is set to make her comeback to acting after a decade, believes that the television industry is "such a great platform" as it is booming. "I was basically looking at doing TV. I will do films only if they have substantial roles. I just don't want to sit in the background and do nothing. In TV, they are not going to cut any of your work and I think TV industry is booming and it's such a great platform today," Ritu, who has featured in movies like "Aankhen" and "Hadh Kar Di Aapne", told IANS. Talking about her projects, she said: "I am doing one TV project which is very interesting. But I can't talk about it right now. The announcement about it will be made soon. Besides that, I am also doing three films which are very exciting."

Popular TV show Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon to return as part of hotstar

Fans of the iconic show 'Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon' are in for a treat. Arnav and Khushi are all set to return with fresh episodes after a gap of almost three years. The show, renamed as 'Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon Ek Jashn', will be available exclusively on hotstar, India’s largest digital content platform, from 24th November 2015. New episodes will be available to the fans every week on Tuesday and Saturday, under the popular hotstar Originals brand. 'Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon' was a top rated show in 2011-12, and its popularity amongst the youth had turned its lead actors Barun Sobti and Sanaya Irani into superstars. The show went off air in November 2012, disappointing millions.

Hotstar since its launch, has offered curated episodes of the show in its library and the fans have flocked to it. Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon Ek Jashn will return with eight 10-minute episodes, showing a day in the life of Arnav and Khushi, set 3 years into their marriage.

Youth heart-throb, Arnav played by Barun Sobti, says, “It never felt like the show ended. I kept receiving feedback and mails from fans as they continued to watch the previous season on hotstar. The entire team of the show is back for this series and we hope to recreate the same magic.”

I don’t want to dwell on what went wrong with my marriage: Model and actress Sampada Vaze who was last seen doing shows like Hum-Tum and Komedy Ka King Kaun, was on a sabbatical following her marriage in 2007 to businessman Chris George. She later relocated to New York in 2008, but unfortunately things did not work out in her marriage and the couple decided to separate. They are now legally divorced. She said, “I want to keep my past behind and not talk about my divorce. I shifted back to Mumbai and want to make a fresh start. Right now, my sole aim is to focus on my work.”Sampada will be seen essaying the role of Queen Sumitra (King Dashrath’s wife) in Nikhil Sinha’s show Siya Ke Ram. Ask her what prompted her to accept the role and she says, “I think there is more scope for me to get creative with my character as Kaikeyi and Kaushalya’s roles were more or less defined.” The actress will play the wife to senior actor Dalip Tahil, who portrays the role of Dashrath. She says, “Age hardly matters these days on TV. Whether I am playing a mother to Ashish Sharma who plays Ram or wife to Dalip Tahil, it does not matter to me at all. The genre of a mythological costume drama and the larger-than-life scale in terms of its creative vision are more important to me.”

Rati turns sutradhaar for a horror series: Actress Rati Pandey took a sabbatical of two years after playing seven characters in her last show Hitler Didi. Now, she is back in action as the sutradhaar in Fear Files, which is set to be revamped as Fear Files – Shraddha vs Shaitaan.

She says, “Considering the amount of workload that comes with playing double roles and multiple characters in a daily soap, a sabbatical is much deserved. I didn’t want to take up any show for about a year after Hitler Didi. I preferred to have my personal space and enjoy life. It doesn’t feel it’s been two years. I got a few offers during this time, but nothing excited me.”

Talking about her new show, Rati elaborates, “It will allow me to showcase both my hosting and acting chops. I will get to do something new every episode minus the melodrama.”

Ask her if she is open to playing the quintessential TV bahu some day, she says, “I don’t mind playing a typical bahu and indulge in some rona-dhona. But I am sure I would do even that differently (laughs).”

Recently, there were reports of her getting married to actor Anas Rashid. Prod her and the actress replies, “I don’t know who spreads such rumours. I got a call from a journalist saying that I was spotted getting married to a businessman at a temple in Juhu. I don’t wish to talk about my personal life. Whenever I decide to get married, the world will know it.”

After 14 years, Shweta returns to TV with a horror show: Fourteen years after winning hearts as the little Shruthi in 'Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii', Shweta Basu Prasad will return to the small screen. The actress, who won the National Award for her role in 'Makdee', will be seen in a horror series, titled 'Darr Sabko Lagta Hai'. The show will see her play a girl who is on the lookout for a hostel accommodation and lands up in a haunted building. The actress is no stranger to the horror genre. She was earlier seen in the film Darna Zaroori Hai (2006). An excited Shweta says, “I haven’t done television in 14 years since Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii. I have done a couple of short films and this episode was a lot like them. I am happy to associate with this series. ”Producer of the show, Priti Sinha says, “We needed a good actress to play the part and Shweta suited the role perfectly.”

For the uninitiated, Shweta Basu Prasad was arrested in connection with a sex racket however was later given a clean chit by the Hyderabad Sessions court. Many popular actors like her co-star from Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii, Sakshi Tanwar and director Hansal Mehta had come out in her support. The Iqbal fame actress was recently seen in AIB's new video called 'Creep Qawwali'.

Working with Ekta Kapoor is homecoming for me: In her upcoming TV show 'Naagin', Sudha Chandran is reuniting with her long-time collaborator Ekta Kapoor and the actress says working with the producer is like coming back home. The 51-year-old actress' first serial with Ekta 'Kaahin Kissii Roz' was an instant success and her character Ramola Sikand became popular for her sarees, jewellery and designer long bindis. A cold war reportedly ensued between Sudha and Ekta post 'Kaahin', but they reunited for another TV soap 'Kuch Iss Tara' in 2007. "Every time I decide to make a comeback it is always with Balaji. I always look for something very different and Ekta never disappoints me. I have worked with other production houses, but Balaji feels like homecoming," Sudha told PTI. "In my very first TV show, Ekta gave me a role which was very different from what I have been doing till then and it made people sit up and notice me. I learn alot from Ekta." 'Naagin' reunites Sudha not only with Ekta, but also her 'Kaahin Kissii Roz' director Santram Varma. The relevance of a show like 'Naagin' in present times may be debatable but the actress said she had no inhibitions about it. "I am very happy that TV is going back to where we belong and what we believe in, the traditions. The concept of 'Naagin' has always interested me and I think even the audience is intrigued by it," said the actress, who will play Yamini on the show. "We may be living in a modern world but people still believe in 'Icchadhari Nagins' and still visit temples to rid themselves of 'sarp dosh." 'Naagin' also stars Arjun Bijlani, Mouni Roy and Adaa Khan. It will air on Colors from November 1.

Rakshanda Khan returns as naagin post maternity break: Playing an icchadhaari naagin seems to have become the new flavour on television. After Sara Khan, Mouni Roy and Adaa Khan, the latest actress to turn snake-woman is Rakshanda Khan. She says, “My character Manjiri is that of a strong girl, who is the only ray of hope in the family. Iqbal Khan excited about 'homecoming' with Ekta's new show:

Actor Iqbal Khan, who came into the limelight by starring in TV tsarina Ekta Kapoor's shows like 'Kaisa Ye Pyar Hai' and 'Kahiin To Hoga', is "excited" about returning to her production banner Balaji Telefilms with its upcoming show 'Pyar Ko Ho Jaane Do'.

"Being a part of Balaji Telefilms is like a homecoming for me. I started my television acting career with Ekta's show - 'Kaise Yeh Pyar Hai'. I am excited for the production house's upcoming venture 'Pyar Ko Ho Jaane Do' I have already starting shooting for the same and I can't wait to see audiences reaction to the show," Iqbal said in a statement.

Apart from Iqbal, the show will also feature 'Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin' fame actress Mona Singh. While Mona will essay the role of Preet in the show, Iqbal will be seen as Ishan.

Bharti Achrekar: UP’s audience can revive TV’s content

Bharti Achrekar is best remembered as the strict mother in 'Chameli Ki Shaadi' and the quirky homemaker in the TV show 'Wagle Ki Duniya'. The actress is now making a comeback to the small screen in an adaptation of the US sitcom 'Everybody Loves Raymond'. We recently caught up with the Allahabad-born actress, as she spoke about why she thinks TV’s audience is stuck in a rut. “Back in the 90s, we had such good, clean shows like 'Wagle Ki Duniya' and' Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi'. Nowadays, the audience is more interested in watching sports or reality shows. The interest in fiction has gone down. I have great expectations from the youth, especially of UP, as this is where our prime audience base comes from. Youngsters have grown up watching Western sitcoms and dramas and can appreciate good content. Hopefully, they will spark a revival of good comedy shows on TV,” she says.

Amar unable to walk but is managing to shoot: Amar Upadhyay, who is returning to the fiction genre after two years with the TV show 'Saath Nibhaana Saathiya', tore a ligament in his right knee while shooting the introduction scene. He has been advised a three-week bed rest. Says Amar, “I was shooting at an akhaada and had to fight four people. The last guy that I fought with, was the youngest and inexperienced. During rehearsals, I could gauge his over enthusiasm and reminded him that it’s not a real fight. My worst fears, however, came true when he snapped my leg and I had to be rushed to a hospital.” He resumed shoot yesterday. “I am using an elbow crutch and knee brace. I can’t walk, so will shoot close-ups, while a body double might be used for mobile shots,” he says.

People find it funny even when I get angry: Stand-up comedian Ahsaan Qureshi has returned to TV after eight years in the fiction show 'Hum Aapke Ghar Mein Rehte Hain'. The show revolves around an ex-dacoit, Bachani Devi (Vibha Chibber) and her family, who have been staying for decades in the house that belongs to Professor Tripathi. Ahsaan, who plays the part, says, “It’s been seven years since I did a TV show. I was constantly being asked when I would return to television and I felt that since I am good with comedy, a fiction show in the same genre would be ideal for me.” Ahsaan, who has only done stand-up comedy shows, finds acting different and challenging. He says, “You have complete freedom to do your own thing in a stand-up comedy act, while I play an angry man in this show. I was initially skeptical if the audience would accept me in such a role. But even my anger is humorous for people.” Ahsaan is also happy that he is working with Vibha Chibber. He says, “She is a talented artiste and it was fun speaking chaste Hindi on the sets with my colleagues. Since I am from Madhya Pradesh, I enjoyed teaching chaste Hindi to my colleagues on the set.”Having relocated to Mumbai, Ahsaan feels he is a complete Mumbaikar now. He says, “The city has absorbed everyone. Whoever comes here, stays back.” 'Hum Aapke Ghar Mein Rehte Hain' airs from Monday to Friday at 10 pm on SAB TV.

Amit Mistry - One can actually survive on theatre today: Actor Amit Mistry, who has acted in movies like 'Shor In The City', 'Ek Chalis Ki Last Local', 'Singh Saab The Great', has made a comeback on television. “I am doing television after almost a decade. Even though I did a few episodes during this time, I’m doing a proper serial only now,” says Amit, who was in Lucknow recently. He adds, “I was busy doing films and theater all this while. My last serial on TV was Bhagwan Bachaye Inko, 10 years ago. Once that ended, I deliberately stayed away from the small screen since nothing interesting was coming my way. And I didn’t want to enter into the world of saas-bahu sagas. I have done 'Kyunki... Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi', where I replaced Hussain Kuwajerwala in the show. But it was a small stint with the genre. From anchoring to saas bahu serials, I have touched almost every genre on the small screen.”Amit, who has done more than 35 plays and considers theater his first love, says a lot has changed on that front. “One can actually survive on theater today. It is an actor’s medium and apart from creative satisfaction, there is money too in it now. Theater is like riyaaz for an actor. So for me, plays are a must,” he shares. Ask Amit, what brings him to TV after so long and he says, “It is a good time for actors like me to do television as makers today are experimenting a lot with the content. My show, 'Daffa 420', has other Bollywood actors as well, who are not regular faces on TV. This is a nice change for the audience as well. The show has stories inspired from real life.”

Actor-writer-director Parmeet Sethi, who started his career on TV almost two decades back, and then moved on to films, is debuting as a show director now. Last seen on the small screen hosting 'Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa' around eight years ago, he is all set to direct a few episodes of 'Sumit Sambhal Lega' along with two other directors, Shashant Shah and Deven Bhojani. He said, “I have ghost directed many standup comedy shows along with fiction ones. I stayed away from TV for so many years because I was not happy with the saas-bahu content and God has been kind to give me other work for so many years. Now that TV shows have newer concepts, I got interested.” 'Sumit...' is an Indian adaptation of the US show 'Everybody Loves Raymond'. Ask him if he enjoys directing more than acting and he replies, “Writing and direction come first. I am open to acting, but only if the role is strong.”

Smita Bansal to make a comic comeback on TV:

The popular saas from 'Balika Vadhu', Jaipur-born actress Smita Bansal, is all set to be back on TV after a break. The actress, who quit the show last year saying that it had nothing new to offer after running for six years, will be soon back on the small screen with the show 'Zindagi Abhi Baki Hai Mere Ghost'. She tell us, “I wanted to spend time with my daughters. It took me pretty long to say yes to this show.” She adds, “There are two reasons that made me take up the show. First, the makers agreed to my condition of not working for 25 or 30 days a month. They are okay with me working for 15 days too. Another reason is the genre of the show. I have never played a comic character on screen. I am again playing a bahu in the show, but a different one this time.”

Now, with her new show, the excitement to be on the sets is back in her life. She says, “I am excited, but I am still very nervous. And it’s not because I am facing the camera after a year. Whenever I take up a new project, I tend to get a bit nervous wondering whether the audience will accept me in that role or not.” Smita, who frequented Jaipur many times during her break, says, “In the past one year, I have come to my hometown pretty often. Now, with work commitments, I can’t really say when will I get to visit Jaipur. But I really miss everything about this city.”

Aditi Govitrikar, who started her acting career on the small screen with 'Ye Meri Life Hai' ten years ago, kept herself busy with anchoring and judging reality shows. And now, she is back to acting again with Siddharth Kumar Tewary’s mythological show 'Suryaputra Karn', where she'll essay the role of Ganga. She says, “When I started acting on television, I was of the opinion that mythological shows are not my cup of tea. But I also believe in the saying — ‘Never say never!’ The role seemed interesting, challenging and pristine, and I thought it would be silly of me to refuse it. I also liked the producer’s approach to it.”

Talking about the challenges associated with a mythological character, Aditi says, “It takes at least three hours to get ready for the shoot. Since the Hindi used in it is chaste, it’s also a challenge to speak fluently.” Ask her what kept her busy all these years and she replies, “I was working and keeping a low profile. But it’s time to get back to acting. I plan to take up one more show simultaneously.”

Manasi Parekh Gohil, will return to a fiction show after three years. She will play the wife Maya in 'Sumit Sambhal Lega', the Hindi adaptation of the popular US sitcom 'Everybody Loves Raymond'.
