NEW DELHI: The Indian men's table tennis team began their
Asian Games journey on a winning note with a convincing 3-0 triumph over Yemen.
In a dominating display, veteran players
Sharath Kamal, G Sathiyan, and
Harmeet Desai secured straight-game victories against their Yemeni counterparts.
Sathiyan initiated the winning streak by defeating Ali Omar Ahmed with an impressive score of 11-3, 11-2, 11-6 in just 14 minutes.
The 41-year-old Sharath Kamal, participating in his final Asian Games, followed suit by claiming a resounding victory over Ebrahim Abdulhakim Mohamm Gubran with scores of 11-3, 11-4, 11-6, thereby doubling India's lead.
The nation's top-ranked player, Harmeet Desai, sealed the tie with an exceptional performance, defeating Magd Ahmed Ali Aldhubhani with scores of 11-1, 11-1, 11-7.
Next up, the Indian men's table tennis team will face Singapore in its second Pool F match later in the day. Simultaneously, the Indian women's table tennis team will kickstart their campaign with a Pool F fixture against Singapore.
