NAGPUR: Three talented city shuttlers --

and Gaurav Mithe -- have been selected in the Maharashtra team which will compete in the West Zone Inter-State Badminton Championship scheduled to be held at Bilaspur (Chhattisgarh) from October 8 to 11.


While Ritika has been picked in the senior team, Rashi and Gaurav found place in the junior U-19 side.

The team was selected on the basis of performance held in the various state tournaments earlier in the season.

Experienced Pune shuttler Neha Pandit will lead the state squad. Ritika has been selected for the doubles. She is the only city shuttler in the senior outfit.

Rashi and Gaurav will do the duty in the U-19 side. The teenage city duo has performed well in the state tournaments particularly in the doubles category. Hislop College student Gaurav will compete in the West Zone for the first time.

City’s experienced coach Kiran Makode and Mangirish Palekar of Mumbai will be the two coaches with the side. Maharashtra Badminton Association’s senior vice-president Ashish Bajpai will accompany the team as manager.

Besides Maharashtra, hosts Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Goa will compete for the top honours in the four-day tourney. The champion team at Bilaspur will represent the West Zone in the forthcoming National Badminton Championships.
