The PCB had demanded Pycroft’s removal after their seven-wicket defeat to India, alleging he instructed captain Salman Agha to skip the customary handshake at the toss. The ICC rejected PCB’s request, allowing Pycroft to continue in his role.
The fallout carried into Pakistan’s must-win clash against the UAE. In a dramatic turn, Pakistan arrived late at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, delaying the start by nearly an hour. Players were asked to remain at their hotel while PCB officials held urgent discussions with the ICC.
Tensions escalated further when Pakistan’s management met with Pycroft just before the toss—a meeting that sparked fresh controversy. The PCB briefly posted a muted video of the exchange on social media.
