Australia rode on Josh Inglis' unbeaten century to beat England by five wickets to record the highest successful chase ever in any ICC 50-overs event, during their Champions Trophy match in Lahore on Saturday.
Inglis remained not out on 120 off just 86 balls from which he hit eight fours and six sixes as Australia chased down the target of 352 with 15 balls to spare.
Opener Matthew Short and Alex Carey contributed 63 and 69 respectively while Marnus Labuschagne made 47 as Australia reached 356 for 5 in 47.3 overs.
Earlier, a magnificent 165 from opening batter Ben Duckett powered England to 351 for 8.
Duckett's 143-ball commanding innings was studded with 17 fours and three sixes, while Joe Root contributed 68 after England were asked to bat first.
For Australia, Ben Dwarshuis took three wickets for 66 runs while Adam Zampa and Marnus Labuschagne chipped in with two each.

Ahead of England starting their 2025 Champions Trophy campaign against Australia, premier batter Joe Root said batting in ODIs is a different thing, as he can't think of any two innings in his career that have been exactly the same.
England come into the eight-team competition on the back of losing four consecutive ODI series, latest of which was a 3-0 defeat in India. "I can't think of any two innings that I have played that have been exactly the same."
"I think the art of batting is assessing the conditions in front of you, managing the situation that you're presented with and consistently making good decisions under pressure," Root was quoted as saying by BBC Sport on Friday.
With England’s ODI fortunes on a slide after making a league stage exit from 2023 ODI World Cup, Root stated that he’s still hungry to have more 50-over success internationally. "I never retired. I have never said I don't want to play the format. I don't think there needs to be either really. I don't think any player has a divine right for selection."
"Obviously you've got perform, you've got to consistently go and do your job and offer something to the team and make sure you're making it a better team, not holding it back. I've never been one to look too far ahead and try and say 'I want to play until here or to then'. You've got to earn the right and you've got to keep putting into the pot," he added.
Root signed off by calling for England’s players to be given more regular opportunities of playing the 50-over format and making a turnaround of fortunes in it. "It's just going to take something different. There isn't that opportunity to do that (play as regularly) nowadays but it doesn't mean we can't be as successful as that team."
"There's just different challenges that we're going to have to overcome. Can we find a way to speed that process up by having good, smart conversations and using our experience and share them so that when you get to the crunch moments within big games, you get the team across the line? I think we've got the right players that are able to do that and we've certainly got the talent."

Former Australia cricketer Shane Watson has backed experienced all-rounder Glenn Maxwell to shine in the ICC Champions Trophy as the Aussies eye their third tournament title.
Despite being 36 years old and with over 250 international caps across all three formats, Maxwell's recent form in the Big Bash League, where he was one of the two Players of the Series, has led Watson to believe that his best cricket is still ahead of him.
Australia, the reigning 50-over World Cup champions and currently second in the ODI rankings, are set to face England. However, with only one win in their last five ODIs and key bowlers Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Mitchell Starc absent from the squad, concerns have arisen about their ability to reclaim the trophy in Pakistan.
Nevertheless, Watson, a two-time ICC Men’s Champions Trophy winner and one of the four Event Ambassadors for the 2025 edition, is confident that Australia will remain a formidable team, especially if their explosive all-rounder delivers.
“The stand-out player for me is Glenn Maxwell. With what I have seen recently, especially in the Big Bash, I believe he has some of his best cricket in front of him across the next two or three years, and I would be very surprised if he does not dominate this Champions Trophy," ICC quoted Watson as saying.
“He had that incredible innings against Afghanistan in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, where he scored a double century, but he has struggled to be consistent at times. That’s the nature of his role in the team.
