CSK vs DC highlights, IPL 2026: Sanju Samson, Jamie Overton shine in Chennai Super Kings' 23-run win vs Delhi Capitals

CSK vs DC highlights, IPL 2026: Seam-bowling all-rounder Jamie Overton headlined a dominant bowling performance by picking 4-18 as Chennai Super Kings secured a 23-run victory over Delhi Capitals to get their first win of IPL 2026 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Saturday.

Overton’s clinical spell - the best figures of the ongoing season so far - stifled DC’s chase after their openers, Pathum Nissanka and KL Rahul, had blazed past the 50-run mark in just the fourth over. The momentum shifted decisively when CSK struck thrice in three overs, leaving the visitors' middle order in disarray.

Despite a fighting 60 off 38 balls from Tristan Stubbs, DC fell well short of the target and were bowled out for 189 in 20 overs, with CSK’s fielding also backing up the bowlers well. Apart from Overton’s hard lengths, debutant Gurjapneet Singh’s disciplined lines caused constant trouble, while Anshul Kamboj was at his accurate best to pick 3-35.

The lack of sustained partnerships also proved to be DC’s undoing as CSK got their first win in Chepauk after losing six successive games. Chasing 213, Delhi began brightly as Nissanka and Rahul took 16 runs off Khaleel Ahmed in the second over and raced past fifty in the fourth over. Nissanka struck five fours and two sixes in his 41, while Rahul looked fluent with two boundaries and a six before mistiming a pull to Khaleel.

At 61/1 after five overs, DC appeared well placed, but CSK had other ideas - Kamboj accounted for Nissanka in the next over, with Dewald Brevis holding on to the chance at mid on. Gurjapneet then marked his debut with a wicket on the first ball, as Axar Patel cut straight to Sarfaraz Khan at backward point.

Sameer Rizvi briefly resisted but fell to Overton, after pulling straight to Brevis at deep square leg. David Miller and Tristan Stubbs attempted to rebuild DC’s chase by taking runs off Noor Ahmad and Khaleel. The duo had a 45-run stand before Overton returned to castle Miller with a pacy delivery.

Ashutosh Sharma’s cameo of 19 off 10, including two sixes, briefly gave CSK a scare, but Noor lured him into a lofted drive that was well taken by Kamboj at sweeper cover. Auqib Nabi followed soon after, caught by Akeal Hosein at extra cover off Overton.

Stubbs, meanwhile, battled on with some quality shots on both sides of the wickets and reached his fifty in 30 balls with a brace off Gurjapneet. The asking rate, however, kept climbing. Stubbs’ knock, laced with four fours and three sixes, ended when he miscued Overton to Noor at mid off. His dismissal in the 19th over effectively sealed the contest, as Kamboj took out Kuldeep Yadav and Lungi Ngidi to close the game in CSK’s favour.

Strategic Break!

Chennai Super Kings are well placed at 130/1 after 13 overs and firmly in the driver’s seat. That said, totals around 200 haven’t always been easy to defend at Chepauk, something Delhi Capitals will be mindful of.

The big question now is: if CSK reach 200, can they push even further? DC will be aiming for quick wickets right after the break to pull things back and build pressure.

An intriguing phase awaits as Axar Patel (3-0-28-1) returns to complete his spell.

After an aggressive start in the Powerplay, the scoring rate has dipped with the field spread out. The last three overs have produced just 16 runs and the key wicket of Ruturaj Gaikwad.

The ball is beginning to soften and is holding slightly on the surface, making strokeplay a bit tricky. However, Sanju Samson has anchored the innings well, batting with control and composure.

He now remains the key for Chennai Super Kings if they are to push towards a total in excess of 180, or even 200.

When will MS Dhoni return? When will he play his next game? When will he be back in a Chennai Super Kings jersey? The questions keep mounting every time CSK take the field.

Dhoni was ruled out for two weeks just ahead of the team’s opening match of the season. However, there is still no clarity over his return, with the veteran yet to feature this season due to a calf strain.

All eyes were on CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad when he walked out for the toss at a packed MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, with fans eagerly waiting for an update on Dhoni.

Delhi Capitals skipper Axar Patel won the toss and opted to field.

"We would like to bowl first because the pitch looks good, and whatever score is set, we would prefer to chase it. The IPL is a long tournament and the dressing room atmosphere is very relaxed. The discussion has been around focusing on what we can control, once we reach a certain point, there’s no need to overthink things. So that’s been the mindset, control what’s in our hands. The mood is good. If you look at the balance of our side, we have almost all bases covered," Axar said at the toss.

"Obviously, based on the options we had, I think we’ve picked a very good combination. Compared to last year, the team looks more balanced and hopefully, we perform well today. As for the surface, it has been a good batting wicket this season. Over the last couple of years in Chennai, it has played well. It’s a red soil pitch, so there should be good bounce. Our aim will be to restrict them to as low a total as possible and then chase it down. There are two changes. Nabi comes in for Vipraj, and Ashutosh Sharma replaces Nitish Rana," he added.

When Ruturaj took the mic, the CSK fans greeted him with a loud roar. Ravi Shastri quizzed him on the toss, team combination, and the big question around Dhoni.

The pitch does look a bit on the drier side. We were actually 50-50 about the toss, but it’s good to back ourselves. The aim is to put our best foot forward today, get that first win and get on the points table. That’s what we’ve been trying over the last couple of games as well. Like I mentioned in the press conference, we’ve been improving in all departments.

The batting has been doing really well, it’s just a few key moments where we’ve missed out, and those are the areas we need to capitalise on. But overall, everyone is in a good space and really eager to go. When you look at the balance of the side, we are definitely playing to our potential.

It’s great to have Brevis back, he’s excited and ready. The middle order looks solid as well. We’ve also brought in Gurjapneet Singh, who has been bowling well recently, in place of Matt Edwards. For those asking about MS Dhoni, he’s at the hotel watching and supporting us. But yes, very soon, you’ll see him out on the ground.

CSK vs DC Live Score: PITCH REPORT
Let's start with the dimensions first. 65 on my right, 68 on my left, and straight down is long, 79 meters long. The nature of this pitch has changed over the years, hasn't it? Indeed, and what hasn't changed is, of course, the humidity, but you're right, the personality has changed, and if you look at what has transpired in the last five years of IPL cricket here, the percentage of wickets to spin and pace at the Chepauk, that red bar has declined, declined to just 11%. So spin, no longer a great threat here.

So when you look at this surface, will that continue? I'm looking at this surface and I'm seeing some bare spots, so maybe CSK might be advised to use maybe that Hosein option. There might be a little more turn, maybe Noor Ahmad could pick up his first wicket this season, but definitely there's something here for the spinners.

The other thing too is, will both teams score in excess of 200? We saw that in the last game, but given what we're seeing here with the grass covering, it's quite even still, it doesn't look that dry. There are no guarantees, but it's going to be a good batting surface nonetheless.

Overall, we are doing really well. From the first game and the game we played last game, I think we have come very close. Yeah, we know we lost by 43 runs in the match, but we saw many positivity in the second and third game. I think this is a game where we can head up and push ourselves on the winning side.

(Another high-scoring match at this venue?) Definitely, in this stadium, the game goes on a higher side because we know the wicket is very good. Yeah, the ground is little big, but yeah, the wickets are good and in IPL, people want that high-scoring game, so even we want to play that kind of cricket.

(More responsibility as a senior player in the team?) Yeah, definitely, as you see about the batters, I feel that yes, I am one of the senior now, so it gives me more responsibility, but it gives me more positivity as well that I am the one who can take the game out. But yes, many players are there in the team who can do big things in the coming matches.

CSK vs DC Live Score: Chennai Super Kings "off the pace"
Chennai Super Kings head coach Stephen Fleming admitted that CSK were "off the pace" last season but said the team has since responded with a strategic reset, including the introduction of younger players.

"So, yeah, we were off the pace last year, I'm the first to put my hand up and admit it. And we pivoted quite quickly now and we're in a position where we've got some younger players.

"I feel very confident about this group of players. And in line with other teams, we haven't shown that this year," Fleming said on the eve of their match against Delhi Capitals here.

He expressed confidence in the current squad, even as he highlighted the challenges of integrating multiple new faces.

"One of the challenges is the number of players we've changed... there is a settling process," Fleming noted, adding that other teams have benefited from greater continuity.

"We understand that, so we're trying to accelerate that process. And we just need a little bit of confidence and a bit of evidence, and that comes from getting across the line. And we haven't been too far off."

He stressed that CSK are working to accelerate cohesion within the group and remain competitive, citing recent performances where the team came close despite narrow margins.

"Look, it's a really good sign that we're working very hard and we're well aware, I'm well aware, and the criticism is appropriate. So, we just have to work harder and find a way forward. But I do feel in touch with the game, thank you."

CSK vs DC Live Score: Fleming dismisses ''outdated'' tag
Chennai Super Kings head coach Stephen Fleming on Friday rejected suggestions that he is struggling to keep pace with the rapidly evolving IPL, asserting that he remains very much in touch with the modern T20 game despite recent setbacks.

Addressing criticism following inconsistent performances this IPL season, Fleming acknowledged that results dictate perception but maintained that scrutiny is part of the role.

"Criticism is fair when you don't do well," he said, while pointing out that his year-round involvement in coaching and player auctions across competitions keeps him closely aligned with global T20 trends.

"Look, I'm coaching throughout the year and two other competitions, and I'm doing auctions across a lot of players. So it's not that I just turn off and then come to the IPL without an idea of where the game is going.

"In fact, it's the other way. I probably never spent more time studying T20 cricket around players around the world, just to service the other teams as well, which feeds into the IPL."

CSK vs DC Live Score: Pressure on Sanju Samson, Ruturaj Gaikwad
The seasoned opening duo of Sanju Samson and Ruturaj Gaikwad will be under immense pressure to perform as Chennai Super Kings extend search for their first win of the season against Delhi Capitals. With three losses at three different venues, CSK have begun the season on an uninspiring note. Whether in batting or bowling, significant improvement is needed if they are to compete with rival teams.

The absence of Dewald Brevis has also impacted the balance of the side. The explosive South African batter is expected to make a comeback from injury against Delhi Capitals. However, there is no clarity over the return of M S Dhoni, who is yet to play this season due to a calf strain.

The opening combination of Samson and Gaikwad needs to come good before things go out of reach for CSK.

Kartik Sharma too needs to step up in the middle while Prashant Veer has done well in the lower order. The only batter who has shown consistency is Sarfaraz Khan who has a point to prove this season.

The CSK bowlers leaked 250 runs against RCB, a total that proved too steep for the batters. Barring Khaleel Ahmed, all the bowlers leaked 12 runs or more per over.

It will be the second game of the season at Chepauk. PBKS had chased 210 comfortably against the hosts on April 3.

CSK take on Delhi Capitals who would be hurting from their one-run loss against Gujarat Titans in Delhi. The Axar Patel-led side knows the importance of momentum in a highly-competitive tournament like the IPL and would be determined to compound CSK’s woes with an all-round performance.

David Miller refusing the single on the penultimate ball to tie the game against Titans would remain a talking point for the rest of the season but that surely won’t be discussed in the dressing room.

It could, however, play on the mind of the South African who backed himself to finish the game for his team but fell agonisingly short.

Pacer Mukesh Kumar leaked 55 runs his four overs on Wednesday, forcing him to review his plans in the powerplay.

In Mitchell Starc’s absence, Lungi Ngidi has done the job for the team by extending his frugal ways since the T20 World Cup.

KL Rahul got welcome runs with the bat after couple of failures, leaving only Nitish Rana in the top order to make an impact.

CSK vs DC Live Score: Chennai Super Kings rue missed chances
These are tough times for Chennai Super Kings. Three losses in a row have left them in a difficult situation and as they take on high-flyers Delhi Capitals at the MA Chidambaram Stadium here on Saturday, they may be looking at their rivals with a degree of envy.

DC have been on a high, winning two of three and coming close in the third game, and their success has been largely built around two CSK rejects in Lungi Ngidi and Sameer Rizvi.

CSK bought Ngidi from the auction in 2018, when he was a virtually unknown quantity. He got 11 wickets that season, playing a significant role in CSK’s title-winning run. But subsequently, he fell out of favour and was released by the franchise. Now, he’s been picked up by DC for Rs 2 cr. But Ngidi himself said that it was during his stint on the sidelines of CSK that he learnt the tricks that have made him a force of late. “I worked with Dwayne Bravo at CSK, working on my slower balls and yorkers and that’s working wonders for me now,” Ngidi had said.

CSK, meanwhile, were desperate in their search for a pacer ahead of the auctions this season. But they overlooked Ngidi and went for Matt Henry, Nathan Ellis and Zak Foulkes, who haven’t exactly set the stage on fire.

CSK vs DC Live Score: When and where to watch
Five-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will clash with Delhi Capitals (DC) in Match 18 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 to be played at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Saturday as they look to end the quest for their first win in this season.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have had a poor start to their campaign this season, with the five-time champions still searching for their first win after losing all three matches so far. Their run began with a defeat to the Rajasthan Royals, followed by another setback against the Punjab Kings. In their latest outing, they were comfortably beaten by the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). With pressure mounting, CSK will be eager to bounce back and finally get off the mark in front of their home fans.

In contrast, the Delhi Capitals have looked like a composed and well-rounded side in IPL 2026. They kicked off their season with back-to-back victories over Lucknow Super Giants and Mumbai Indians, impressing with both their strong batting lineup and disciplined bowling attack. However, their winning momentum was halted in their previous match, where they fell agonisingly short, losing by just one run to the Gujarat Titans.

The head-to-head record between Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals in T20 matches shows a clear edge for CSK. Out of 31 matches played between the two sides, Chennai Super Kings have won 19, while Delhi Capitals have secured 12 victories. There have been no tied matches or no results in their encounters.

The rivalry began on May 2, 2008, with Delhi Capitals winning the first-ever fixture, and in their most recent meeting on April 5, 2025, Delhi Capitals emerged victorious.

CSK vs DC Live Score: Bowling and top-order questions
Pacer Mukesh Kumar will look to bounce back after conceding 55 runs in four overs, especially with the new ball.

In the absence of Mitchell Starc, Lungi Ngidi has impressed with his control and economy.

Among the batters, KL Rahul found some rhythm after a couple of failures, leaving Nitish Rana as the only top-order batter yet to make a significant impact.

This clash could well come down to which struggling unit — CSK’s bowling or DC’s top order — finds answers first.

CSK vs DC Live Score: Chepauk test awaits
This will be the second match of the season at Chepauk, where Punjab Kings comfortably chased down 210 earlier this month, raising further concerns for the hosts.

Delhi Capitals will aim to bounce back.

Delhi Capitals, led by Axar Patel, will also be eager to respond after a heartbreaking one-run loss to Gujarat Titans.

The moment involving David Miller — who refused a single on the penultimate ball — may linger externally, but inside the camp, the focus will be on regrouping. Still, the missed opportunity could weigh on the batter.

CSK vs DC Live Score: Middle order and bowling under scanner
In the middle order, Kartik Sharma needs to step up, while Prashant Veer has shown promise in the lower order. Sarfaraz Khan has been the lone bright spot with consistent performances and will look to continue his form.

CSK’s bowling has been equally concerning. They conceded 250 runs against RCB — a total far beyond reach. Apart from Khaleel Ahmed, the rest of the attack went for over 12 runs per over.

CSK vs DC Live Score: Selection concerns and key absences
The absence of Dewald Brevis has disrupted the team’s balance, though the explosive batter is expected to return from injury against Delhi. However, there remains no clarity on MS Dhoni, who is yet to feature this season due to a calf strain.

With the top order misfiring, the onus will be on Samson and Gaikwad to provide a solid start before the situation worsens.

CSK vs DC Live Score: Hello and welcome!
Hello and welcome to the Live coverage of IPL 2026 match between CSK and DC in Chennai.

The experienced opening duo of Sanju Samson and Ruturaj Gaikwad will be under pressure to deliver as Chennai Super Kings continue their search for a first win when they face Delhi Capitals in IPL 2026 on Saturday.

Three defeats at three different venues have left CSK with plenty to ponder. Both batting and bowling units have struggled, and a significant improvement is needed if they are to stay competitive.
