... THE RUN CHASE ...
Big chase coming up - 169 is the magic number for the Delhi Capitals as they chase a place in their fourth final in a row. They have fallen short against the Giants twice in the league stage, both in thrilling last-over finishes, but those targets were significantly bigger than this. With everything on the line and a far more manageable chase in front of them, whatever happens next promises some excellent entertainment. Join us in a bit for the second essay.
Bright Start, Costly Finish for Delhi - Delhi Capitals began sharply with the ball, as Chinelle Henry struck early and Nandni Sharma continued her fine form by taking two in her first over, including the opposition captain for a golden duck, also making her the leading Indian wicket-taker of the season with 16 wickets. But the control slipped in the middle and death overs, not helped by 25 extras. Amidst all the chaos, Henry finished with a fine three-fer. The spinners did manage a wicket through Mani, yet Kapp could not make an impact, and 60 runs conceded in the last five overs have left Delhi with a tougher chase than it should have been.
A quick chat - Chinelle Henry says this is the third time Delhi Capitals are facing Gujarat Giants this season, and importantly, it is the lowest total they have had to chase against them. She adds that the team is clear about what needs to be done to reach the final and feels they did well to pick up wickets early after the way the Giants started. In her view, 169 is a very chaseable total. Speaking about the bowling plans, Henry explains that it was about assessing the wicket early. There was a bit of bounce on offer, and the focus was on making the most of it. She acknowledges that the Giants attacked towards the back end of the innings, something Delhi were prepared for, and reiterates the importance of staying calm and composed during the chase. On the message to the openers, Henry notes that the wicket improved for batting as the game went on. She believes not losing wickets at the top will be key to getting across the line and booking a place in the final. Asked about whether Lee’s catch or her own was the better one, Henry smiles and says that can be decided after the game. What mattered most, she adds, was that those two catches brought Delhi back into the contest.
Gujarat Dig Deep After Early Wreckage - Gujarat were wobbling at 38/3 with Devine and Gardner falling cheaply, but Beth Mooney once again stood tall, first steadying the innings with Anushka before finding the perfect partner in Georgia Wareham. Their crucial 61-run stand in the middle overs flipped the momentum, with Wareham striking a brisk 35 off 25. Mooney then carried the innings through, finishing unbeaten on 62 for her second fifty of the season, and a late cameo from Kashvee lifted Gujarat to a far more competitive total.
Eliminator on a Knife Edge after Late Twists - A gripping contest between bat and ball has set up a real thriller in this Eliminator. After finding themselves in early trouble, Gujarat Giants will happily take this total on most days, especially in a knockout where runs on the board can be priceless. Delhi Capitals, though, will feel they let things drift in the final overs, missing a chance to tighten the squeeze, but with belief in their batting depth, they will back themselves to reel this in and keep their campaign alive.
Nandni Sharma to Beth Mooney, FOUR! A boundary to end the innings! Sharma bowls it on a back of a length, on middle, Mooney gets on top of it and nails the pull to the right of deep mid-wicket for a four. Mooney puts on her finishing touch to help the Giants finish with 168.

Nandni Sharma to Beth Mooney, OUT! KASHVEE GAUTAM IS RUN OUT! On a back of a length, on middle. Beth waits on it and pulls it wide of long on. Gautam is late to set off for the second run and is struggling to make her ground as the throw comes in from the deep. It goes on the bounce to Nandni Sharma, who is standing behind the stumps. She fails to gather it cleanly and the ball drops at her feet. She recovers and after having a couple of cracks at it, Sharma manages to gather the ball and break the stumps. The third umpire is summoned for a check and Gautam is found short.

Nandni Sharma to Kashvee Gautam, FOUR! A massive misjudgment on the part of Niki Prasad, and she ends up conceding a boundary. Sharma sticks to the pace off ball, on a length, at the stumps. Kashvee has a big swing across the line. She gets more height than distance on it. Prasad runs in off the ropes at deep mid-wicket before realising that the ball is going over her head. She back pedals and tries to take the catch to her left but the ball drops behind her and bounces over the ropes.

Double strike for DC and the scene has changed again. Kashvee Gautam is the next batter in.
Chinelle Henry to Bharti Fulmali, OUT! CAUGHT AND BOWLED! Two wickets in the over for Chinelle Henry, and the Capitals are back on top. Henry bends her back and digs it in short, over off. Fulmali hangs back and swivels for the pull, but the ball hurries her and also gets big on her. It goes straight up off the splice of the bat. Henry runs across the wicket to her right and takes the catch.
