Well, that's really lucky for Knight. Wonder how the bails were rooted to the groove despite the ball hitting the stumps so hard. I have seen the bails go up and then land back on the stumps, but to not move at all, in spite of such a force, is unreal.

... THE RUN CHASE ...
405 is the target required for Scotland then. The highest score chased down in a Youth ODI has been 350, by West Indies in 2011, in Visakhapatnam. One silver lining amidst this hammering for Scotland is that if Pakistan manage to beat Zimbabwe on Thursday, the Scots could still edge the home side out on net run rate. But for that, they need to try and get to 350 or 300 and lose by a small margin. Let's see how they fight. The run chase is around the corner.
Ben Mayes has taken out some time to talk to Tash Farrant. On his ongoing emotions, Mayes seems short of words, before managing to splutter that he wasn't quite sure it was going to happen this morning. Thanks the others for helping him to be in the moment. On the batting display, Ben says that as a team, England tried to identify which balls they could target, with the strong winds and short boundaries. Calls Joe Moores as his favourite mate to bat with, calling him an unbelievebale batter and a joking character, ensuring that they had a good time in the middle. On the advice to the bowlers, BM says that despite losing the toss, it is still quite a good pitch to bowl second. Feels that there will be turn which was evident when England played Zimbabwe. Advices his bowlers to maintain a stump-to-stump line.
It was not as if Mayes was playing only his game. He was playing a calculated knock. In a stand of 188 with Moores, Mayes contributed 101. Then, he featured in a 47-run stand with skipper Thomas Rew. where Mayes made 21. That followed an 84-run partnership with Caleb Falconer, which saw Mayes' contribution as 52. So the plan was pretty clear from England - let Ben Mayes enjoy his day and the others play around him. Mayes was hitting the ball sweetly from ball one and tried to take as much strike as possible, though when he got out, he had faced only 117 from the 256 bowled by Scotland since his arrival at the crease. With 18 fours and 8 sixes, he just lit up the Takashinga Sports Club.
It was written in the stars that Ben Mayes would perform today. Before this knock, his highest score in Youth ODIs was an unbeaten 82 against India, in July 2025. And after that knock, he had crossed 30 only once in 8 innings before the start of this World Cup. And now, he has got two back-to-back 50-plus scores and a massive highest score of 191 to boot. He will feel gutted on missing out on the double ton, especially having come so close to it, but emotions will be high in his heart at the moment.
When the pitch report was done this morning, Tino Mawoyo reckoned that there will be plenty of seam movement in the first half and then the deck would turn out to be placid. However, the Scots barely found any swing or seam and were just carted. Ben Mayes was the one who started the counterattack, after the early loss of Ben Dawkins. Joe Moores joined in and suddenly, a spring of boundaries started to flow, with Scotland simply struggling to contain. The duo just kept piling the runs on before Moores fell on 81, unlucky to miss out on his century, with the stand broken on 188.
On a day where everyone travelled, Finlay Jones stood out with the best economy of 6.25, claiming 2/50 in his 8 overs. Jake Woodhouse picked up the most number of wickets - 3, but otherwise it was a sorry bowling card. And to add fuel to the fire, the first over of the match was a maiden! A very tough outing for Scotland, as they have now conceded a total of 400 or more THRICE in Youth ODIs, all in World Cups, joint most with Kenya. An unwanted record.
Thomas Knight, the captain of Scotland Under-19, was very happy when he won the toss this morning, but little did he know what was going to be in store today. Finlay Jones struck in the third over of the game, but that was the only good news for the Scots for another 22-odd overs. They broke the 188-run stand between Joe Moores and Ben Mayes but the runs and the partnerships just kept on coming. They enjoyed a brief respite in between, from overs 46-48, where they conceded 21 runs and picked up 2 wickets. But the final 2 overs spoilt their plans again.
Well played, England Under-19. 404/6 is now the highest score in this World Cup. This is the 8th time that 400 has been breached in Youth ODIs, with India doing it thrice and Australia, England, New Zealand, Sri Lanka and West Indies doing it once. The Brits would have had another record, only for Ben Mayes missing to be the first player to register a double hundred in an Under-19 World Cup.

Max Chaplin to Sebastian Morgan, On a length around the pads, Sebastian Morgan flicks this to the right of deep mid-wicket and calls for two. The throw from the deep was a really good one towards the striker's end but the keeper failed to hit the bails on the first go and the batter makes his ground.
Max Chaplin to Farhan Ahmed, Full and down the leg side, Farhan Ahmed looks to sweep but misses and gets it flicked off his pads behind the stumps for a leg bye.
Max Chaplin to Sebastian Morgan, On a length around middle and leg, Sebastian Morgan hits this well but straight at his partner on the other end. The ball deflects off Farhan Ahmed's knee to mid-wicket and the batters take one.
Final over of the innings. At last. ENGLAND HAVE ALREADY REACHED THEIR HIGHEST SCORE IN YOUTH ODIs, but 400 will be the main aim. South Africa's 397/5 is currently the highest score in this tournament.
Jake Woodhouse to Farhan Ahmed, FOUR! That's poor from Finlay Carter at long on. Good length on middle and off, Farhan Ahmed hits this aerially in the gap between deep mid-wicket and long on. Finlay Carter runs to his right from long on, overruns the ball and it rolls behind him to the fence.
