Jasprit Bumrah on brink of historic milestone as India’s T20 World Cup hopes hang by a thread
NEW DELHI: India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah stands on the verge of a monumental milestone as he needs just three wickets to reach 500 international scalps, a feat that could coincide with one of the most crucial matches of India’s T20 World Cup campaign. The must-win clash against Zimbabwe in Chennai offers Bumrah the perfect stage to enter an elite club and potentially rescue India’s faltering semifinal hopes.

With India reeling from a crushing 76-run defeat to South Africa in their Super Eight opener, the spotlight is firmly on Bumrah to deliver with his four overs. In 232 international matches, he has already claimed 497 wickets at an outstanding average of 20.56, including best figures of 6/19, along with 18 five-wicket hauls.
Bumrah’s impact in the ongoing tournament has been equally remarkable, taking seven wickets in four matches at a stunning average of 9.85 and an economy rate of just 5.30.
Bumrah’s brilliance was evident in the previous match, where he returned 3/15 and became India’s highest wicket-taker in T20 World Cup history with 33 wickets. His deadly yorkers and deceptive slower balls remain India’s biggest weapon, especially at a time when their batting has struggled badly against pace variations.
India’s vulnerability against slower deliveries has been alarming. Zimbabwe’s pace duo of Brad Evans and Blessing Muzarabani are capable of exploiting these weaknesses, making Bumrah’s role even more critical.
As India fight to stay alive, Bumrah’s milestone moment could not have come at a more defining time.
