NEW DELHI: Unbeaten in the tournament so far, a confident and well-rounded India will start as overwhelming favourites against Afghanistan in Wednesday’s ICC Under-19 World Cup semifinal. India are the most successful side in the competition’s history, having lifted the trophy five times (2000, 2008, 2012, 2018, 2022), ahead of Australia, who have claimed four titles.
On Wednesday, India will aim to move a step closer to a record sixth crown.
The Indians have enjoyed a dominant campaign, winning all five of their matches comfortably, including a 58-run victory over arch-rivals Pakistan in the Super Six stage.
Afghanistan, meanwhile, have also had an impressive run, winning four of their five games, with their only defeat coming against Sri Lanka by four wickets.
Based on current form and squad strength, India are expected to hold the upper hand heading into the knockout clash.
