Behind the scenes: How India women's team celebrated the emotional win vs Australia in the dressing room
Jemimah Rodrigues led India to a historic Women's World Cup final with an outstanding unbeaten 127 runs against Australia in the semi-final. Despite battling anxiety and emotional struggles off the field, she showed remarkable strength when it mattered most, helping India defeat the seven-time champions.
The 25-year-old's masterful innings came at a crucial time, as she faced personal challenges including being dropped from last year's World Cup squad. She admitted to crying almost daily while dealing with anxiety and mental health issues.
"Today was not about my 50 or my 100. Today was about making India win. I know I got a few chances, but I just feel like God has given everything at the right time and he grew it into the right intention, pure intention. And I just feel everything has happened so far just to sit up for this. You make your own luck," Rodrigues said after receiving the Player of the Match award.

She opened up about her difficult journey, sharing how support from those around her helped her overcome her struggles. "Firstly, last year I was dropped from this World Cup. This year I came and I thought, okay, I'll try it. I was in good form, let's take it more. But things back-to-back just kept happening, and I couldn't control anything. I had such amazing people around me who believed in me," she revealed.
During the tense final moments of the match, Rodrigues kept her composure through self-talk and prayer. She drew strength from a Bible verse, saying, "I think initially I was just trying to stay focussed, I just keep talking to myself. But towards the end I was just quoting one scripture from the Bible. Because I had lost energy, I was very tired. I was doing one scripture that said, 'Just stand still and God will fight for you'. And I just stood there and he fought for me."
As she made her way to the dressing room, she was greeted with an emotional bunch of teammates following the remarkable win over the defending champions Australia, the seven-time winners and overwhelming favourites to add to that list.
