Day 3 in a nutshell
Ishant Sharma removed opener Devon Conway just before the end of day's play but New Zealand still took the upper hand on Day 3 of the World Test Championship Final in Southampton finishing at a strong 101/2 in reply to India first innings score of 217 all out. Under overcast conditions, Conway led fight from the front, scoring his second Test half-century off 153 balls. Kiwis now trail by another 116 runs in the first innings. Along with Conway, skipper Kane Williamson looked solid as well during his unbeaten 12-run knock in the final session of the day. This was after Conway and his opening partner Tom Latham laid a strong foundation with a 70-run partnership that lasted 34 overs. Both the openers kept India bowlers at bay, showing solid defensive technique. It was Ashwin, who finally got rid of Latham for 30 to give India their first breakthrough. But after that, Conway and Williamson continued with the fight until Ishant snapped up Conway for 54, bring India back into the contest towards the end of the day. Earlier, India collapsed from 146/3 to 217 all out to hand New Zealand the advantage in the marquee Test. Pacer Kyle Jamieson was the wrecker-in-chief as he led the Kiwi attack with his fifth fifer, taking apart India's middle and lower order. Ajinkya Rahane (49), eventually ended as the highest scorer for India.
