England, despite good spells from Woakes (1/43), Stokes (2/47), and a sharp return from Liam Dawson, couldn’t dominate, as Jadeja and Thakur resisted in the final hour. The pitch’s slow nature offered little bounce, and the overcast skies didn’t help their cause.

India will now hope Pant’s injury is not serious and that their remaining batters can convert this solid start into a commanding first-innings total.
