India won a Boxing Day Test on this day in 2010 as well

Your 'Man of the Match' for this year's Boxing Day Test in Australia

Ajinkya Rahane

That's cheeky

09:47 (IST), Dec, 29

Since the start of this century, India have won more Tests in Australia than Australia have in India

A special first for Rahane

With scores of 45 and 35* in his debut Test - that too in Australia, he certainly is

09:38 (IST), Dec, 29

True that

09:37 (IST), Dec, 29

This is India's 52nd away-Test win

09:35 (IST), Dec, 29

This win is more special in terms of the backdrop to the game, with India losing the first Test miserably while getting bowled out for their lowest Test total of 36 and as a result were defeated inside three days. On top of that, the team never allowed the absence of regulars like skipper Kohli (on paternity leave), Shami and Ishant play on their mind.

09:31 (IST), Dec, 29

The hero this time, of course, was stand-in skipper Rahane, who scored a century in the first innings -- besides the bowlers led by Bumrah and Ashwin who didn't let the absence of Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav (injured during the Test) hurt them. Bowling out Australia for 195 and 200 is a testimony of that. And Mohammed Siraj picking up five wickets in his debut Test, with Gill scoring 45 and 35 not out, augurs well for Indian cricket.

09:28 (IST), Dec, 29

So the MCG proves to be the winning venue for India for second time in a row. India won the Melbourne Test during their 2018-19 tour as well.

09:18 (IST), Dec, 29

INDIA WIN!!!

Quite deservingly, skipper Ajinkya Rahane hits the winning runs as India (326 and 70/2) beat Australia (195 and 200) by eight wickets to win the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground and level the four-Test series 1-1.

09:15 (IST), Dec, 29

Gill is in a hurry now, hits Labuschagne through the mid-wicket for a four to take India within five runs of victory.

Not that it would have mattered at this stage, but Australia have dropped another catch as Starc puts Rahane (21*) down. India 59/2.

09:10 (IST), Dec, 29

Fifth boundary for Gill (30* off 33) as he pulls Hazlewood for a four to take India's total to 57/2, just 13 away from a win.

09:03 (IST), Dec, 29

What a drive! What a shot! Rahane (19*) showing the form he is in. A crunching drive for four brings up India's fifty - 52/2. Just 18 more needed to win.

08:59 (IST), Dec, 29

Boundary! Beautifully played on the up by Rahane, and Hazlewood has been hit for a four through the point region. India 46/2, need only 24 more now to win.
