India vs West Indies Highlights, 1st ODI: India beat West Indies by 5 wickets, take 1-0 lead in three-match series
IND vs WI 1st ODI Live Updates: India beat West Indies by five wickets in the first ODI to go 1-0 up in the three-match series on Thursday. Ishan Kishan top-scored with a 46-ball 52 as India chased down the small target of 115 with 163 balls to spare. Captain Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja remained not out on 12 and 16 respectively. Earlier, India bowled the West Indies out for 114 runs in just 23 overs.

India secured a resounding five-wicket win over the West Indies in the opening One Day International (ODI) of the three-match series at Kensington Oval in Barbados on Thursday. Opting to field first, India's spin duo, Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav orchestrated the downfall of the West Indies batting line-up, bundling them out for a paltry 114 runs in just 23 overs.

I never thought the pitch would play like that, it was the team's need to bowl first and have a score. The pitch had everything for seamers and spinners, our guys did well to restrict them to that score. We wanted to give game time to the ODI guys who have come in, we will keep trying those things whenever possible. To restrict them to 115, we knew we could try these guys and give them a go. I don't think they'll get many chances like this. I made my debut for India and was batting at number 7, reminding me of those days. Mukesh was brilliant, he can swing the ball at a good pace. Good to see what he can offer, I haven't seen him much in domestic cricket. No matter the conditions, we need to bowl in the right areas to restrict them and I thought our bowlers did brilliantly. And then Ishan was good with the bat as well.

Not too many words come to mind. We didn't play the way we needed to, we needed to find ways to score on difficult pitches like this. I'm not making excuses but anyone watching cricket can see what is happening here. He is a quality player, somebody we can invest in and I hope he grows from strength to strength. The Indian bowlers did well on this surface, but we didn't bat well.

Perfect, the fast bowlers bowled really well with Mukesh, Shardul and Hardik. Me and Jaddu were brilliant, we hit the right lengths which is what was necessary on this wicket. I'm just focusing on my rhythm, hitting the right lengths and it has been very nice. I thought it would be a seamy paradise, we are happy we got 7 wickets from our side. It was spinning a bit, and there was bounce as well. It's always good to have competition, we just try to work together. When you have a senior like Chahal, it helps you and he gives a lot of advice as well. We enjoy each other's company.

Ishan Kishan hit a quick fifty, but others failed to capitalise on the chance given by the skipper Rohit, who came out to bat at No.7. Nonetheless, it's a winning start for India in the three-match series.

The way the pacers bowled was really good, Mukesh and Shardul in particular. And then Jadeja and I could handle things, the ball was spinning a bit. We had to control our lengths and the wickets were easy to get. I have been working on my rhythm and it has been amazing. The ball is coming out nicely and I’m very pleased with it. I have also been varying the pace and in the white-ball format, my focus is on hitting the right lengths. (On bowling googlies) Depends on the condition and situation, when they were 5 down I could bowl my variations. When the left-hander came in, I was trying to bowl away from him. To be very honest, I felt this wicket was really good for spin.
