India vs Bangladesh highlights, Champions Trophy 2025: Shubman Gill slams unbeaten ton to power India to six-wicket win over Bangladesh

India vs Bangladesh highlights, Champions Trophy 2025: A stellar century from Shubman Gill and Mohammed Shami's five-wicket haul were instrumental as India secured a six-wicket victory against Bangladesh in their ICC Champions Trophy opener at Dubai on Thursday.

In pursuit of 229 runs, established through a resilient 154-run partnership by Towhid Hridoy, India began strongly with a 69-run opening stand. Despite a mid-innings wobble at 144/4, Gill and KL Rahul guided India to victory.

The chase commenced with Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill providing a solid foundation. Rohit struck three fours in Mustafizur Rahman's sixth over. India surpassed the 50-run mark by the eighth over through the captain's boundary.

The opening partnership ended at 69 when Taskin Ahmed dismissed Rohit, who scored 41 off 36 deliveries with seven fours, caught by Rishad Hossain. Virat Kohli arrived but found the spinners challenging. India reached 100 runs in 20 overs. The 42-run partnership between Kohli and Gill concluded when Rishad dismissed Kohli for 22 off 38 balls, caught by Soumya at backward point. India stood at 111/2 in 22.4 overs. Gill achieved his fourth consecutive fifty-plus score in ODIs from 69 deliveries. India subsequently lost Shreyas Iyer (15) and Axar Patel (8), leaving them at 144/4 in 30.1 overs.

KL and Gill steadily progressed towards the target.

The 200-run mark came in 42.3 overs.

Gill completed his eighth ODI century in 125 deliveries, including nine fours and two sixes. KL finished the match with a six, as India reached 231/4. Gill remained unbeaten on 101, while KL scored 41 not out.

Rishad claimed two wickets, with Taskin and Mustafizur taking one each.

Earlier, a substantial 154-run partnership between centurion Towhid Hridoy and Jaker Ali helped Bangladesh recover from 35/5 to post 228 runs. The remarkable recovery by Hridoy and Jaker provided Bangladesh a competitive total. Shami excelled with five wickets.

Bangladesh's innings began poorly after winning the toss. Early wickets included Soumya Sarkar and Najmul Hossein Shanto for ducks. Mehidy (5), Tanzid (25), and Mushfiqur Rahim (0) fell quickly, leaving Bangladesh at 35/5. Jaker and Hridoy stabilised the innings, reaching their fifties and building a century partnership. The stand ended at 154 when Shami dismissed Jaker for 68.

Brief contributions from Rishad (18) followed, while Hridoy reached his maiden ODI century before being dismissed for 100. Shami (5/53) and Harshit (3/31) led India's bowling effort, supported by Axar's 2/43.

I would have fielded first. We have played a few years back here so we felt ball comes on better under lights. All looking good. Everyone is fit and fine to go. Let's hope we start well. There is no looking back, every game becomes very important in this tournament. Only Varun misses out from the last ODI.

The format of the tournament is such that none of the games can be taken easy by the eight teams in the fray. The teams are divided into two groups of four each, from where the top two make it to the semi-finals. Pakisan are experiencing that heat after their loss to New Zealand, which means that if they lose their next match to India (February 23), then it could possibly mean curtains for the fancied hosts.

A brilliant century from Shubman Gill and Mohammed Shami’s five-wicket haul powered India to a commanding six-wicket victory over Bangladesh in their ICC Champions Trophy opener in Dubai on Thursday.

Chasing 229, India got off to a strong start with a 69-run opening stand before a brief stumble at 144/4. However, Gill’s composed century, alongside KL Rahul’s steady knock, ensured a comfortable win.

Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill laid a solid foundation, with Rohit attacking Mustafizur Rahman in the sixth over and India crossing the 50-run mark by the eighth over. The partnership ended at 69 when Taskin Ahmed dismissed Rohit for 41 off 36 balls, caught by Rishad Hossain.

Virat Kohli joined Gill but struggled against spin as India reached 100 in 20 overs. Kohli’s 42-run stand with Gill ended when Rishad Hossain had him caught at backward point for 22 off 38 balls.

Gill brought up his fourth consecutive fifty-plus score in ODIs off 69 balls. However, quick wickets of Shreyas Iyer (15) and Axar Patel (8) left India at 144/4 in 30.1 overs.

Gill and KL Rahul steadied the chase, with India reaching the 200-run mark in the 43rd over. Gill then completed his eighth ODI century off 125 balls, striking nine fours and two sixes.

Rahul sealed the win in style with a six, as India finished at 231/4. Gill remained unbeaten on 101, while Rahul contributed 41* off 55 balls.

For Bangladesh, Rishad Hossain took two wickets, while Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman claimed one each.
