New Zealand needed 107 runs to win on the final day and they have overhauled the target in 27.4 overs for the loss off two wickets.

The Black Caps end a long 36-year wait as they beat India in their own backyard for the first time since 1988.

Their last win, before today, was a 136-run victory that came at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Rain and wet outfield delayed the start of play on the final day and after play began at 10:15 am, Jasprit Bumrah started superbly picking up tom Latham for a six-ball duck.

After that Devon Conway and Will Young fought hard against the quality Indian bowling attack, adding 35 runs for the second wicket.

Bumrah then removed Conway for 17 but by then it was too late.

India needed wickets in clusters but the Kiwi batters were smart enough to deny them much success.

Rachin Ravindra and Will Young then added unbeaten 72 runs for the third wicket, sealing a famous win for the visitors.

With the victory, New Zealand take a 1-0 lead in the three-Test series.
