Vaibhav Sooryavanshi creates IPL history, becomes fastest ever to...
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s record-shattering IPL 2026 campaign reached yet another unbelievable milestone during Qualifier 2 against Gujarat Titans as the Rajasthan Royals youngster became the fastest player ever to complete 1000 IPL runs.
The teenage sensation broke Andre Russell’s long-standing record, with the West Indies star previously having reached the landmark in 545 balls. Sooryavanshi now sits at the top after another explosive innings that once again left bowlers helpless in a high-pressure knockout clash.
Fewest balls taken to 1000 IPL runs
440 - Vaibhav Sooryavanshi
545 - Andre Russell
560 - Tim David
575 - Travis Head
575 - Phil Salt
The milestone came during a dramatic innings where Rajasthan Royals found themselves in immediate trouble after opting to bat first. RR lost Yashasvi Jaiswal in the opening over and Dhruv Jurel in the second as Mohammed Siraj and Kagiso Rabada struck early blows.
With Rajasthan under massive pressure, the franchise promoted Jadeja to No. 4 in a move that completely changed the momentum of the innings. Jadeja and Sooryavanshi steadied the innings brilliantly as RR raced to 82/2 in just eight overs.
The partnership became even more important after Jadeja was forced to retire hurt while struggling with an injury. Rajasthan then suffered another collapse as Riyan Parag and Dasun Shanaka departed in quick succession, leaving Sooryavanshi once again carrying the innings almost single-handedly.
Jadeja eventually returned to the crease and together with Sooryavanshi stitched a crucial 127-run partnership in just 65 balls to revive Rajasthan’s innings.
In the middle of the rescue act, Sooryavanshi continued rewriting history. During the innings, he also became:
The stat perfectly captures the absurd level at which he has batted this season. This was his eighth 50-plus score in the IPL, and on five of the previous seven occasions, he had reached the landmark in 17 balls or fewer.
Just when another century looked inevitable, Sooryavanshi once again fell heartbreakingly short in the 90s. Attempting an upper cut off Kagiso Rabada, the youngster failed to time it properly and was caught by Prasidh Krishna at third man for a sensational 96 off 47 balls, packed with eight fours and seven sixes.
Even without the hundred, Sooryavanshi had already produced another historic night, adding more jaw-dropping records to what is rapidly becoming one of the greatest IPL seasons ever seen from a batter, let alone an uncapped teenager.
