KKR vs CSK Highlights, IPL 2023: Chennai jump to top as Kolkata suffer fourth defeat on the trot

Devon Conway, Shivam Dube and Ajinkya Rahane slammed quick half-centuries to guide Chennai Super Kings to an imposing 235 for four against Kolkata Knight Riders in Match 33. Sent into bat, Conway (56 off 40) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (35 off 20) shared quick 73 runs for the opening wicket to hand CSK a scintillating start. After the duo's departure, Dube (50 off 21) and Rahane (71 not out off 29) kept up the scoring rate, stitching 85 runs off just 32 balls to keep CSK's scoring rate high. CSK top-order took most of the KKR bowlers to cleaners to pile up the big score. Young leg-spinner Suyash Sharma (2/29 from 4 overs) was KKR's lone bright spot in the bowling department. Just had a clear mindset. If the thing between your ears is right, your mind is right then you'll be fine. I'm just trying to enjoy my game. The wicket was a bit sticky, but once you are in you have a great chance. We had a great start, and after that I wanted to play my shots and keep the momentum. I've enjoyed all my knocks so far, I still feel the best is yet to come. It is a great learning, I've played under Mahi bhai for India for many years, and now even at CSK it has been a great learning. If you listen to whatever he says, you will more often than not perform.

I will just say thanks for the support, they came in big numbers. Most of these guys will come in a KKR jersey next time. They are trying to give me a farewell, so thanks a lot to the crowd. Fast bowlers are doing their job, so are spinners in the middle. The wicket was short on one side so we needed to get early wickets and keep the pressure. They have plenty of power hitters, so we had to give the respect to the opposition. I have a clear funda, if someone is injured he can't do anything. You just move on and motivate the youngsters to perform. We have been fortunate that all the guys coming in are performing. (On Rahane) We realise the potential of someone when we allow him to bat the way he bats. We give him the freedom, give him the best position. In a team environment, someone has to sacrifice his slot to allow the others to get more comfortable, and allow the team to succeed.

My partnership with Rutu at the top, it calms the nerves for me. We try to keep it simple. A lot of credit goes to Rutu. Just trying to be as clear as possible. I've always had issues with the balls straight and on the bodyline, seems to be getting that away in the last few games. My role is to put bowlers under pressure. Using my feet gets me into those good position and creates momentum through the innings. The culture that we have in Chennai is special. Everyone feels very comfortable, everyone feels backed. We have a good vibe in the group. For us, it's about continuing this momentum and moving forward in the tournament. Having MS in your group, it's great to have him. It does feel like a home fixture every time we play. CSK fans get behind him and us as a group, good to be part of this group.

Tough to digest. Always going to be difficult chasing 236 especially if you don't have a good powerplay. Have to give credit to Rahane. As I said, it's tough to digest that we conceded a score like that. We do have some positives. But if you don't improve. If you keep repeating mistakes against such a big team, you'll lose.

That's it! Chennai Super Kings grab the top spot! A fantastic win for MS Dhoni and co as they beat beat Kolkata Knight Riders by 49 runs in a convincing manner. Chasing 236 for victory, KKR finish at 186 for 8. Ajinkya Rahane, Devon Conway and Shivam Dube fifties powered them to a formidable total and then bowlers produced an all-round effort to restrict Kolkata in the chase. Fourth defeat in a row for Kolkata as Chennai grab their fifth win in 7 games.
