NEW DELHI: Delhi Capitals have brought in former India wicketkeeper
Vijay Dahiya as their chief talent scout after the franchise decided to part ways with former India batsman
Pravin Amre who was associated with the franchise for five years.
Dahiya has previously served as an assistant coach at Kolkata Knight Riders till 2017. He was an integral part of the system that turned around the fortunes of KKR when he joined the team with
Gautam Gambhir as the captain.
During his stint, KKR had lifted two IPL trophies.
Amre, meanwhile, has been instrumental in setting up the core of the Delhi franchise which was earlier known as Delhi Daredevils. Delhi suffered a rough run during his stint before qualifying for the playoffs last year. Amre had brought in young talent like
Shreyas Iyer,
Rishabh Pant and
Prithvi Shaw who are now the bedrock of the franchise.
"Dahiya is a good option since he is a local and played a lot of cricket for Delhi besides coaching the Delhi's state team. It's always good to have people who are familiar with the talent available in the region. A franchise should have more local talent to build a stronger fan base," a source close to the development told TOI.
