Former India opener
Virender Sehwag has taken a cheeky jibe at
Rohit Sharma's struggle in the powerplay in the ongoing
Indian Premier League (IPL).
During the match between Punjab Kings and
Mumbai Indians at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium, in the Hindi commentary, former India opener
Aakash Chopra raised a point that Rohit Sharma hadn't had much of the strike till the fourth over. Rohit had faced only eight balls in comparison to his opening partner Ryan Rickelton's 16.

Acha hai. Is bahane wo powerplay ke baad tak tike rahenge. Warna, powerplay mein jitni jyada gendein wo khelte hai, utne jyada chances ho jaate hai unke out hone ke. (It's good. This way, he would still be at the crease after the powerplay. Otherwise, the more balls he faces in the powerplay, the more chances there are of him getting out)."
Rohit played a scratchy 21-ball 24 against Punjab Kings. He never looked set today and he fell while playing a big shot. He made room and looked to go down the ground, but got it nowhere close to the middle and the ball flew towards long-on, where Nehal Wadhera took an excellent catch diving forward. The ball was dying on him, but he did well to take it low, hold on, and tumble over.
Who's that IPL player?Rohit Sharma has managed just three scores above 50 in 13 innings so far and has been dismissed in the powerplay nine times in 13 innings this season.
Overall, Rohit has managed just 329 runs at a strike rate of 147.53 in the tournament so far.
Punjab Kings convincingly thrashed Mumbai Indians by seven wickets to ensure a top-two finish in the playoffs and two chances to enter the final of the IPL. Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians will finish fourth and will have to play the Eliminator against either Gujarat Titans or Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
