That's all, folks! A bit of a let-down, given the history between the two sides and their historical dominance in this tournament. Chennai were just far too good with the ball tonight, and Mumbai's batting order simply lacked the conviction to pull off a big chase. However, the games keep flowing thick and fast in the IPL and there's another on the cards pretty soon. On Friday, 24 April, it will be Royal Challengers Bengaluru taking on Gujarat Titans at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. That contest will begin at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT), but as usual, you can join us a lot sooner for the build-up. Until then, take care and goodbye.
POTM - Sanju Samson! Samson is given the accolade for his stellar knock of an unbeaten 101 off just 54 balls. Samson starts by saying that it is always special to score a hundred at this special venue and in front of this crowd. Adds that the wicket wasn't a regular Wankhede wicket and the ball was holding, so he had to reassess his game. Mentions that the game gives you pointers on what to do, and you do not always need to come with a pre-determined mindset, and feels that it is his responsibility to read the game and mentions that if they had wickets in hand, he would have gone big sooner. Sanju says that it is a young team, but the character shown by the players, even after 3 losses, is great to see. Adds that they do know that every team is strong but they want to build on this win and enjoy such moments. Finishes off by saying that it is his first time wearing yellow at this ground and mentions that he's never seen so many people wearing yellow at the Wankhede Stadium.
The CSK skipper, Ruturaj Gaikwad - On being asked about Mukesh Choudhary and how he has been coping with the loss of his mother, Gaikwad says it takes enormous mental strength to come back and perform in such circumstances, and credits Mukesh for returning to the team, knowing they needed him. Gaikwad shares that before taking the field, the group had spoken about winning the game for him, and feels glad to do so. On being asked how the win feels, Gaikwad says it feels good before revealing that he was still uncertain at the toss, with his gut telling him to bat first despite the surface looking both a touch green and dry. He shares that the plan was to assess conditions in the opening overs, and after a quick chat with Samson, they agreed the ball was not coming on as nicely as expected and that anything around 200 would be a competitive total. He adds that Akeal and Noor bowled really well to help defend it. Points to the collective effort throughout, highlighting the cameos from Brevis and Kartik as crucial in keeping the momentum alive. He reserves special praise for Samson, calling his knock magnificent and noting that he has been in sensational touch. Gaikwad also mentions that the bowling has been improving steadily since the opening games, with the team focusing on staying calm and executing the basics. On being asked whether the spinners are the trump card or whether CSK have a well-rounded bowling attack, Gaikwad says the team is moving towards covering all bases. He points to Mukesh for setting the tone with a containing first over in the Powerplay against the likes of Suryakumar and Tilak, and praises Anshul for his consistency. About the upcoming games, Gaikwad stresses that it is back to zero from here. He says the focus will be on assessing the conditions, with a day game also coming up in quick succession.
... The Presentation ceremony ...
One man made all the difference - Earlier in the game, Chennai Super Kings were put into bat by Hardik Pandya and the CSK skipper, Ruturaj Gaikwad, got off to a rollicking start. However, AM Ghazanfar broke through on the last ball of the third over and got Mumbai back in the game. Both teams continued to throw jabs at each other but only Sanju Samson managed to stand tall. He batted through the first 20 overs and ended up with an unbeaten 101 off 54 balls, which helped CSK breach the 200-run mark. As for MI, Jasprit Bumrah bowled two top overs at the death as the likes of AM Ghazanfar and Ashwani Kumar picked up a couple of wickets each but the likes of Hardik Pandya and Krish Bhagat conceded 69 runs in between them in their 4 overs.
Here's the man of the moment - Akeal Hosein hands the Purple Cap to Anshul Kamboj and then has a quick chat with the broadcasters. He says that the wicket was offering swing as well as spin and he tried to use the conditions as best as possible. Adds that he tried to attack the stumps and felt if the batters were able to get him away, then kudos to them. Further mentions what Dwayne Bravo once said that as a spinner, you will get hit in the Powerplay and the sooner you get that out of your mind, the better it would be for them. Ends by saying that Noor Ahmad has been working hard and is really pleased to see him do well.
Let's now hear from the MI skipper - On being asked about the defeat, Hardik Pandya admits that losing too many wickets in the Powerplay put them on the back foot from the start, and concedes that they simply could not cope from that position once the damage was done. When asked whether the pitch changed in the second innings, Hardik dismisses it quickly by saying that he is not someone who likes to make that excuse. Praises CSK for batting well and says it was the same track through and through. Stresses that they just should have batted better. Says the CSK spinners got the ball to grip and turn and also adds that even their spinners bowled really well too. Praises Sanju Samson for playing an outstanding knock. Points that their batters kept on chipping in and got them to what he calls more than a decent total. Accepts that for them to chase this, they needed a good Powerplay with the bat, which they failed to achieve. On what needs to change before the next game, Pandya stresses that there will be a detailed chat when they get back to the drawing board. Details about figuring out what they need to do with clarity. Says they have a couple of days and will see what best needs to be done for the side.
MI's batting in need of a makeover - Mumbai Indians did score 199 in the last game, but that was thanks to one outstanding knock from Tilak Varma, who hit a century, while the rest of them faltered big time. The absence of Rohit Sharma is hurting them at the top but the big names in the middle order aren't doing a job either. Varma and Suryakumar Yadav made a couple of scores in the 30s, but SKY never seemed settled. Hardik Pandya and Sherfane Rutherford made a grand total of 1 run between them. No one, barring Varma and Yadav, even got into the double digits, and in the end, it was a rather sorry-looking scorecard for the other five-time champions.
Hosein rules the roost - CSK might have a few injury concerns, but the bowling attack is now starting to take shape nicely. Akeal Hosein came back into the team as an Impact Sub and repaid the faith with a stellar spell of bowling. He picked up a couple of early wickets to get the ball rolling and Mukesh Choudhary chimed in with one as well and MI were reduced to 11/3 in a jiffy. CSK had to survive one big stand after which they kept on picking up wickets throughout the innings. Hosein ended up with a four-wicket haul as Noor Ahmad also picked up a couple of wickets. All four pacers picked up a wicket each to seal a huge win against their biggest rivals.
CSK reign supreme on enemy turf - The Super Kings have done to Mumbai what Mumbai did to Gujarat Titans just a few days ago. CSK also get back to winning ways and make their way up the table as they dominate the IPL Classico and get a win over MI for the fifth time in the last 6 meetings. This is also Mumbai Indians' biggest defeat in terms of runs in the IPL.

Akeal Hosein floats it up on a nagging length and angles it into the stumps. Suryakumar Yadav gets a big stride out and looks to sweep it behind square leg. Yadav does just that, but top edges it aerially and straight to deep backward square leg, where Sarfaraz Khan comes in a bit to take a comfortable catch. Hosein gets his fourth wicket of the game and CSK can see the finish line from here. MI slip down from 84/3 to 87/7.
STRATEGIC BREAK! The hosts are in deep waters in Wankhede as yellow continues to dominate blue. Barring that 73-run partnership between SKY and Tilak, nothing, absolutely nothing has gone MI's way in this chase. Just when they needed big overs to shrink that asking rate, they have lost wickets in a heap, slipping from 84/3 to 87/6. With only Suryakumar Yadav left at the crease as the recognised batter, MI will look upon him to bat out the innings. They still need 121 runs from 42 balls, which looks like a bridge too far from this stage. Akeal Hosein will bowl out. 3-1-14-3 are his bowling figures so far.
