That's all from Lucknow - With this win, the Gujarat Titans move up to 5th with 2 wins and 2 losses from their 4 games, while the Lucknow Super Giants drop to 6th with two wins and as many losses. We are not done for the day, though, as the second game of the day in Mumbai is up and running, where the Royal Challengers Bengaluru have been asked to bat first by the Mumbai Indians. You can switch tabs and follow the action from that game. Cheers!
PLAYER OF THE MATCH - Prasidh Krishna wins the award for his brilliance with the ball. He returned figures of 4/28 from his 4 overs, his best figures in the IPL. He says the most important thing was the victory and that the team is doing a lot of things right. He adds that they always look to play a good brand of cricket. Prasidh shares that with a lot of experience in the dressing room, they make sure to tap into each other's ideas. He also speaks about putting in a lot of work on his slower balls and says it feels rewarding when it comes off, especially after the time and effort put in during training.
The captain of the Gujarat Titans - Shubman Gill, on being asked whether he would call this a complete performance, agrees and adds that he is pleased to see contributions coming from all the departments. On Rashid Khan, Gill says a bowler like him, when in good form, makes his (Gill's) life as a captain a lot easier. He credits Rashid for getting GT back in the game every time another bowler came under pressure, describing him as the go-to man in tough moments. Speaking about Siraj, Gill says that executing the basics in the first six overs is never straightforward. He feels the key was to step back, identify the simple things and execute them in the moment, and says that Siraj did exactly that in this match. He calls Siraj's spell a turning point in the game. On Rabada, Gill notes that while he went for runs, his lengths were spot on throughout. On the surface, he admits it was not an easy pitch to bat on. He feels GT gave away a few extra runs towards the end, but they would have taken that score at the halfway stage regardless. Ends by saying that he is delighted to get back-to-back fifties and is happy for Buttler as well.
Time for the presentation ceremony...
Jos Buttler reacts to the win - Buttler says it is nice to find some form and contribute to the win. He adds that a little bit of time away from the game helped him reset. Mentions that he has been working on his setup and basics, addressing some technical issues. Jos shares that one of the first things Matthew Hayden asked in the first few sessions was how well you are tracking the ball. Adds that Hayden has been great, bringing a big presence and aura, and when he speaks, everyone listens. Buttler tells that it is great to have family around, helping him switch off from the high-intensity nature of cricket and spend quality time away from the game.
The captain of the Lucknow Super Giants - Rishabh Pant admits that they just didn't have enough runs on the board. Also credits the GT bowlers for bowling really well. Adds that on a wicket like this, anything above 170-180 is a good score, but admits that they kept losing wickets one after the other and couldn't add more to the total. Pant also mentions that there were a few opportunities which they didn't grab in the field. Says it's a great lineup and he doesn't want to put pressure on anyone as the tournament is still in its early days. He accepts that there are times when form deserts even the best, but maintains that the trust and belief within the group is high.
LSG's batting story - In Lucknow, they say pehle aap (after you), and Shubman Gill followed that sentiment by inviting Lucknow to bat first. The home side managed to score 60 runs in the powerplay but lost a couple of wickets along the way. GT dominated the middle phase and deprived LSG of any real momentum, with their quicks making a consistent effort to hit the deck, while Rashid Khan held his end up. Wickets fell at regular intervals, but thanks to some late contributions, LSG scored 44 runs in the last 3 overs to get up to 164.
GT chase with control - It was a disciplined start with the ball from LSG before a 20-run over from Mohammad Shami set GT free. Sai Sudharsan fell inside the Powerplay, but Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler set up the chase with an 84-run stand. The duo picked up boundaries when on offer, rotated strike well, and minimised the dots. Both batters brought up fifties, with Buttler scoring his 100th T20 fifty of his career. Neither could see it through till the end, which gave LSG a bit of a sniff, but it stayed at that as Sundar and Tewatia saw GT home.
Back-to-back wins for the Titans - Gujarat get the job done and bag the two points. A second consecutive win for GT, and they snap their run of 3 losses against LSG. Lucknow Super Giants needed to bowl exceptionally well to defend 164, but their attack lacked penetration against a GT top order that more often than not does the job for them, and it did so again tonight.

STRATEGIC BREAK! Buttler and Gill are making this chase look like an absolute stroll in the park now. They have not tried anything adventurous, but have just followed the simple process of see-the-ball hit-the-ball. With just 37 runs needed from 36 balls, LSG need a miracle to turn things around from here, but they look absolutely down.
