Mitchell Santner to Vipraj Nigam, On middle, flicked through square leg for a single.
Mitchell Santner to Vipraj Nigam, FOUR! BOSH! Fractionally short, outside off, Vipraj Nigam rocks back and heaves it over mid-wicket for a boundary!
Earlier this season, MI came out on top against DC in a thrilling match, winning by just 12 runs. Mitchell Santner to bowl the final over of the Powerplay.
Will Jacks to Vipraj Nigam, Sweeps it over square leg but there is protection in the deep. Just a single. A wicket but also 16 from the over, some momentum for DC.
Will Jacks to Vipraj Nigam, FOUR MORE! And now, the cheekiness comes out. Quicker ball, outside off, Vipraj Nigam stays back and dabs it late past the keeper, through the vacant slip region, to short third's left, for a boundary!
Will Jacks to Vipraj Nigam, FOUR! BOOM! Full, outside off, Vipraj gets underneath the ball and lofts it cleanly over mid off!
Will Jacks to Vipraj Nigam, SIX! Makes use of the Free Hit. Full and wide outside off, Vipraj Nigam reaches out and carves it over cover!
Will Jacks to Vipraj Nigam, NO BALL! Well, that's excellent umpiring. Nigam pushes the ball towards point and we all think it is a dot ball but the umpire sharply sees only three fielders inside the 30-yard circle! You need to have 4. That is a penalty and the next ball will be a Free Hit.
Vipraj Nigam walks in next at number 5, replacing Abishek Porel.
Stumped? MI are confident and the decision is referred upstairs. Seems like the foot is inside the crease. Or is it? The third umpire reckons that the foot is in the air when the bails are broken!
Will Jacks to Abishek Porel, OUT! STUMPED! These are shades of the 2020 IPL final. DC were 22/3 batting first in that game in Dubai. Here, they are 27/3. Though this decision looked a bit debatable, to be honest. No complaints about the bowling. Beautifully flighted, outside off, drawing the batter forward. Abishek Porel lunged to defend but the ball landed and spun past the outside edge. The keeper, Ryan Rickelton, collected the ball and quickly whipped off the bails, appealing for stumping joyously. The decision was referred upstairs and the replays seemed to indicate that the foot had got up in the air, but had also got back down in time, before the bails were dislodged. However, the third umpire checked a few replays before eventually ruling it in favour of the fielding side. Porel walks off shaking his head, as he too is not happy with that decision. But he has to depart for 6 (9) and Delhi Capitals are sinking at 27/3 after 4.2 overs. Equation - 154 from 94.
Will Jacks to Abishek Porel, Whoa! There is plenty of grip available. Jacks tosses this one up around middle and off, Abishek Porel goes back and looks to punch it through the off side but the ball holds on the surface and then bounces a bit extra. Porel is caught in no man's land and ends up spooning the ball uppishly, landing just short of cover.
Prior to this game, MI's bowling unit had picked up 30 wickets in the Powerplay, the most in IPL 2025. Its strike rate of 9.9 was also the best among all teams. Time to test the spin on this wicket. Here's Will Jacks.
Deepak Chahar to Sameer Rizvi, On middle, pushed towards short mid-wicket.
Deepak Chahar to Sameer Rizvi, FOUR! Taking it on. A short ball, at head height, around middle and off. Sameer Rizvi gets inside the line and hooks it over short fine leg. A bounce and into the ropes.

Deepak Chahar to Abishek Porel, Outside off, on a length, Porel punches this sweetly through the covers and gets a couple. 159 more needed from 99 balls.
Deepak Chahar to Abishek Porel, Another slow ball, around off, Abishek Porel swings hard and gets it off the inner half of the bat towards short mid-wicket.
Deepak Chahar to Abishek Porel, Fuller, outside off, driven towards mid off.
Boult has been in some really good form of late and picked up at least two wickets in each of the last 4 innings. He has also had an economy of below 7 in 3 out of those 4 innings.
Trent Boult to Sameer Rizvi, Around off, pushed towards backward point. 10/0 after 1 over, but the next 2 have gone for 10/2 combined!
Trent Boult to Sameer Rizvi, Outside off, a short ball, Sameer Rizvi looks to pull but then bails out.
Sameer Rizvi walks in next at number 4, replacing KL Rahul.
Trent Boult to KL Rahul, OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! Is that the game done and dusted? Boult gets the better of Rahul. On a length, outside off, KL Rahul jumps out and has a wild swish. Only manages to get a bottom edge and the keeper, Ryan Rickelton makes no mistake. Boult flashes a giant smile and MI know how big a wicket this is. Rahul departs for 11 (6) and Delhi Capitals are 20/2 after 2.4 overs. Equation - 161 from 104.
Trent Boult to Abishek Porel, Outside off, Abishek Porel opens the face of his bat and runs this down to deep backward point for a run.
Trent Boult to KL Rahul, Around middle, worked through mid-wicket for a single.
Trent Boult to KL Rahul, FOUR! Not quite sure this was intended. On a length, outside off, angling away, KL Rahul looked to punch it through the off side, preferably in front of point, but instead, got an outside edge which ran behind point instead. Fell in the gap between backward point and short third and raced away.
Out of Rahul's 5 hundreds in the IPL, 3 have come against MI.
Deepak Chahar to Abishek Porel, On the pads, flicked behind square leg for a couple to get off the mark. Just 4 runs and a wicket from the over to start his evening, Deepak Chahar.
Deepak Chahar to Abishek Porel, A good bouncer to welcome the new batter, around leg stump, at head height, Abishek Porel sways away from the line.
Abishek Porel walks in next at number 3, replacing Faf du Plessis.
Deepak Chahar to Faf du Plessis, OUT! CAUGHT! And MI get their first inside the second over. That's a bit of surprising shot given Faf du Plessis' standards. The field was pushed back, with long on in place, and for some reason, du Plessis looked to go in that direction. Perhaps, he just wanted to chip it. Or maybe, he was targetting long off. It was an off-pace delivery, a knuckle ball and he ended up playing a bit too early. Hits it straight down the throat of Mitchell Santner at long on. The skipper for this game departs for 6 (7) and Delhi Capitals are 12/1 after 1.4 overs. Equation - 169 from 110.
Deepak Chahar to KL Rahul, A bit too straight, on the pads, KL Rahul works it towards deep mid-wicket for a run. 169 more needed from 111.
Deepak Chahar to Faf du Plessis, Full, outside off, 133.8 kph, du Plessis has an ugly hack. Gets an inside edge behind square leg and takes the single. Clearly, Delhi Capitals are looking to go hard in the Powerplay.
Deepak Chahar to Faf du Plessis, On a length, around off, coming in, Faf du Plessis works it towards short mid-wicket.
Trent Boult is the leader of MI's pace pack and has picked up the most wickets for the them this season, with 18 scalps. Here's Deepak Chahar.
Trent Boult to Faf du Plessis, Outside off, on a length, Faf mistimes his punch again, this time towards mid off. Takes Hardik Pandya on and completes the single. A good pickup and throw from Hardik would have been interesting but he fumbles. 10 from the opening over of the chase.
Trent Boult to Faf du Plessis, On a length, around off, cutting back in, du Plessis mistimes his punch towards cover.
Trent Boult to Faf du Plessis, Outside off, punched straight to cover.
Trent Boult to Faf du Plessis, FOUR! CLASSY! Fine way to get off the mark. On a length, just outside off, Faf du Plessis gets across and just caresses it through the covers. The ball threads the gap between cover and point and races to the fence.
Trent Boult to KL Rahul, Full and closer to the off stump, swinging in, Rahul pushes it towards mid off for a single.
Trent Boult to KL Rahul, EDGED, FOUR! Normally, Boult starts off from over the wicket but tonight, he started from around the wicket from the word go. The ball was full and wide outside off and KL Rahul threw his bat at it. Got a thick outside edge which just went to the right of short third, into the fence! 177 more needed from 119 balls.
The MI players get into a huddle. Out walk the DC openers - KL Rahul and Faf du Plessis. Can DC find their own Surya in one of these two? MI will look for early wickets and getting Rahul is half the battle won. Also, Axar's batting will be missed as well. Trent Boult shall start off proceedings. Rahul is officially announced as the impact sub for Mukesh Kumar. Right. Boult to Rahul, first up.
... THE RUN CHASE ...
Yes, definitely seems to be 10-15 runs extra. In fact, this pitch reminds me of the game between KKR and MI in IPL 2024 at the Wankhede on a similar wicket. KKR had managed 169 then, and restricted MI to 145. Might see a similar result for the side batting first tonight. Stay tuned.
Mumbai Indians' SURYAKUMAR YADAV is up for a chat with the broadcasters. Says that this is one innings which he had wanted all through the season and thinks that the score is a bit above par. Opines that the wicket was a bit slow and the batters thought about taking it deep. On how difficult it was to play the waiting game, SKY smiles and says that it felt good after nourishing the fruits towards the end. On the dew, Surya says that he has not checked the dew yet but says that they thought it was a 160-165 wicket and have got 15 runs extra.
Delhi Capitals will feel very hurt. They bossed the game till the 18th over, at least for a major portion, looking at somewhere between 150-160 but the power of Mumbai are making them see at 180. It was an excellent start by the new-ball bowlers but the spinners stood out. Kuldeep Yadav and Vipraj Nigam finished with combined figures of 8-0-47-1 and choked Mumbai. They received good support from Mustafizur Rahman, who was at his best. However, Chameera suffered another poor outing while Mukesh just could not adjust with his cramps.
At 58/3 in the 7th over, MI were in trouble and even through the partnership between SKY and Tilak, it seemed like DC were always on top. But that's what patience is all about. Surya waited and waited till the final two overs to explode and boy, did he explode. His last 11 balls saw him score a whopping 33 runs. He got good support from Naman Dhir towards the end, in a quickfire unbeaten stand of 57 (21). Surya stands tall with a majestic 73 but either side of that score, one could see a highest score of 27. Definitely not an easy pitch to bat upon.
