The Kiwis got off to a flying start, with their openers scoring briskly before Will Young perished. Mark Chapman joined Rachin Ravindra at the crease and the duo forged a crucial 112-run partnership off just 91 deliveries, propelling New Zealand into a commanding position. However, the loss of wickets in quick succession, coupled with some tight bowling in the latter half of the innings, restricted the hosts under 260. Rachin Ravindra scored a solid 79, while Mark Chapman chipped in with a half-century. Daryl Mitchell and Mitchell Santner provided a late flourish to ensure that the hosts scored over 250.
