New Zealand vs UAE Highlights, T20 World Cup 2026: New Zealand chase down 174 in 15.2 overs for a 10-wicket victory over UAE

New Zealand vs UAE Highlights, T20 World Cup 2026: Power-hitting openers Finn Allen and Tim Seifert slammed fifties as New Zealand drubbed the United Arab Emirates by 10 wickets in their T20 World Cup Group D match here on Tuesday.

Allen (84 not out) and Seifert (89 not out) made mincemeat of the inexperienced UAE bowlers as the Kiwis overhauled the target of 174 in just 15.2 overs.

This was also the highest partnership in T20s for any wicket.

Earlier, skipper Muhammad Waseem and the promising Alishan Sharafu hit fifties to carry the UAE to a competitive 173 for six.

After opting to bat, UAE lost opener Aryan Sharma early to pacer Jacob Duffy, but Waseem (66 no off 45 balls) and Shrafu (55, 47b) added 107 runs for the second wicket to give their side a solid base.

For the Kiwis, pacer Matt Henry took two wickets while skipper Mitchell Santner and Duffy took a wicket each.

Matt Henry to Aryansh Sharma, An appeal for LBW, but not given. Back of a length, jagging back in with a good bounce again. Aryansh Sharma misses to work that across off the back foot and is rapped high on the front thigh. Santner gives it a thought, but then decides not to review it. Possibly, height is the factor.

PITCH REPORT - Ian Smith says it is a beautiful afternoon and informs that it is pretty humid out there. In terms of ground dimensions, he says the square boundaries are 73 and 60 meters, while the straight hit is 75 meters. He feels that due to the bias on one side, the batters will aim to exploit the conditions by targeting the shorter boundaries. Sunil Gavaskar joins in and straightaway says it is made for runs. The Little Master details that it is pretty hard and mentions that if you punch it, you might as well break your knuckles. So, he expects the bounce to be true throughout the game. Highlights that New Zealand bowled majorly on short and short of a length to tie up the batters in their previous game against Afghanistan. Stresses that bowling fuller here will invite a lot of trouble. Expects the first inning score to be in the range of 180-200.

New Zealand vs United Arab Emirates Live Score: PITCH REPORT
Let's talk about the playing conditions. It's really nice, 27, nice breeze coming across the ground at the moment actually. 27, 28, humidity around about 62-63%. That's cool. That's no problem at all for the players. In terms of the dimensions, straight hit down the ground is 75 metres. The pocket, the deep mid-wicket pocket for the right-handers over here - 78m. Square in the wicket - 73m.

Why is that important? Because it makes the other side very short. Just 60 metres. And down towards third man - 59 metres. So in terms of tactics, how you use your bowlers, where do you bowl your spinners, that becomes quite crucial for the captains. The pitch, it's a new one. This looks like a very, very good pitch to bat on.

No wonder the captain of UAE decided after winning the toss that he would bat first because it's a hard pitch. The ball will come onto the bat quite nicely. Even on the practice pitches where we just saw both the teams practising, we saw there were very a good carry. And it's got to be pretty much the same as far as this match is concerned. There might just be a little bit of turn for maybe the team that is bowling second. But with Mitchell Santner around, Mitchell Santner capable of turning the ball on any kind of surface, it won't be easy for the UAE batters. I see a score if UAE bat well of at least 160 to 180. If New Zealand were batting first, I would have said 200 plus on this pitch because this is an absolute beauty to bat on.

The captain of New Zealand - Mitchell Santner says it looks like a good wicket and they were also thinking of batting first. Informs that they are going with the same team that played the previous game. Adds that it is the first time he has seen some grass on a wicket in Chennai. Further details that the surface in the last game was more of a black soil, whereas this one, he points out, is a red soil surface. Expects that it will stay true throughout and will offer a good bit of bounce and carry as well.  Santner notes that preparation now involves watching a lot of videos and keeping up with franchise cricket. He admits that UAE is a good side, saying they rely on a few key players but have a strong overall squad that can make things tricky for them.

14:39 (IST) Feb 10

The captain of United Arab Emirates - Muhammad Waseem says the pitch looks good and is expected to play the same across both innings. He hopes the team can put a competitive total on the board and adds that they are keen to show the world how they play T20 cricket. Acknowledging that it is a tough group, he stresses that the side is ready for the challenge, having arrived with a different mindset and clear plans, taking the tournament one game at a time. He also notes that the confidence in the camp is high, and with a new venue and a new tournament, he aims to lead from the front.

New Zealand vs United Arab Emirates Live Score: Phillips’ maturity stands out
One of the biggest positives from the Afghanistan game was Glenn Phillips’ measured approach. Instead of resorting to early aggression, Phillips assessed the conditions and bowlers before accelerating, showing growth in his game.

"Glenn's world class. His experience in this country, he's had a lot of success in the last few weeks here playing against a very strong India side. I've got high hopes for him for the rest of the tournament," his teammate Lockie Ferguson had said after the match against the Afghans.

New Zealand vs United Arab Emirates Live Score: Momentum after Afghanistan win
The Kiwis earned two crucial points after overcoming a tricky Afghanistan side by five wickets on Sunday. That win has put them in a strong position, and they will now look to make the most of an outing against relatively less-fancied UAE opposition.

The victory against Afghanistan highlighted the value of New Zealand’s experienced and deep batting order. After slipping to 14 for two while chasing 183 on a slow pitch, the side recovered with composure to get over the line.

Despite the win, the Mitchell Santner-led unit will be keen for bigger contributions from openers Finn Allen and Rachin Ravindra.

Both were undone by Mujeeb ur Rahman’s spin in the previous match, but the UAE attack does not pose the same level of threat, offering an opportunity for the duo to regain form ahead of tougher tests.
